Need Help Zbrush Noob with .ZTL -> .FBX

Hello all,

My company does not own Zbrush and to make a long story short, we’ve had an artist run us through the loop and this is the icing on the cake. I finally received a model from him and he saved it in the .ZTL format instead of a universal format. So, I asked him for the .FBX and he said Okay… yet I’m still waiting (no surprise at this point).

Proactively, I downloaded the Zbrush Trial version. I know you can export as .FBX, but I am unsure how. The .ZTL file opens up and is seen on the right pane. I tried exporting as .OBJ and it did now keep the UV/textures. When I try the .FBX export, it says I need something inside the Edit mode. I’m not sure how to do this after importing the .ZTL file (imported as tool).

Could someone in this community please help a small indie developer out?

Thank you!

With your model selected in the Tool palette:

  1. Click+drag downward in the viewport (called the ZBrush “canvas”). This will draw out the model.
  2. Immediately press ‘T’ on the keyboard, or press the Edit button in the row of icons at the top of the interface. Your model is now in Edit mode.
  3. Go to the Zplugin palette > FBX ExportImport, select which options you want (you can click the Options> button for more options) and then press Export.

That’s it.
