Need help please

Here I have an imported object. When I rotate it, it disapears. Why?

Thanks for any help.
Guitta

It could be past the clipping plane, and hence invisible. Try moving it towards you by clicking and dragging outside the move gyro.

gebe you need to bring the object forward a bit. if you go into the Picker option you can move the object forward with a negative number or take it further back with a positive number. The reason why it disappears is that it apparently right at the clipping plane. Digits has a script that can fix that for you.
I hope this helps.

Hmm! I have tried with the picker to -8064 Z. This doesn’t change any thing. I would like to paint the object, but cannot if I cannot see it.

I will try to find Digit’s script.

I have created this object (a leaf) in Carrara 1. Can I create such an object directly in Zbrush? And also a leaf that looks like Ivy?

I have so much to learn, but I need help.
Thanks alot.

Glad someone brought that up, I thought it was a ‘feature’ (it probably is)

i’ve imported DXF and OBJ landscapes from Terragen/C4D and you can only see one side of those… they’re transparent on the other… And it doesnt matter if you flip the model in C4D prior to exporting it, you still only seem to be able to see the wrong side of the terrain, lol…

Obviously I’m doing something wrong, but it looks like the same problem we’re both having.

You can create a leaf like this directly in ZBrush. Draw the object and then MRCZGrab it, then make alpha, after you can then use the modifications under the tools option to shape it bend it or modify it any way you wish before you paint it. These palm fronds were done that way.

You may want to go to TOOLS>MODIFIERS menu and turn Double Sided on. That is the most likely culprit.

EDIT: When I say turn Double Sided on I mean you must have the imported object selected. IE…import the dxf model, draw it out on the workspace, enter Edit mode (hit T on the keyboard) and then turn double sided on.

I have only been able to get the double sided to come up when I use the 3D brush. However if my Guru says that is the most likely culprit you have heard it from one of the best!

Polygons are one sided. They simply don’t exist from the wrong side. With native ZBrush prmitives, Double is active by default. But with a polymesh of any kind, they are one sided. This has the advantage of conserving processor power. Why compute the inside of an object, if you’re never going to be able to see it? But there are times (like this) when you want both sides visible.

Tool>Modifiers>Double will make all polygons double-sided so that you can rotate an object like this and see it from all sides.

Tool>Modifiers>Flip will flip the surface normals. In this case, it would make the front side invisible and the back side invisible. But there are other times that it can be very useful.

gebe, Mentat has recently shown a superneatobandito way to create leafs here - this for sure looks adaptable for ivy, too. a very nice ivy-tool has been posted here, but that was before start of 2002, so i couldnt find it via “search” - you might want to enable the “all topics” at the dropdown menu on top of the zbrush forum index page to be able to browse topics before that deadline - i think the tool was posted in late summer 01, but have forgotten its creator. anyway, creating your own the Mentat-way will take less time, i assume

Thanks to all for the great tips. I will forget then my Carrara leaf and try to create new ones in Zbrush (need to export them).

I apreciated very much your help. :sunglasses: :+1:
