Need advice - A new workstation

Hi there,

Since the new Zbrush is going to be released and many other programs im working with, I decided to fresh up my old rusty system.

I thought of an intel i7 based PC, but i have absolutely NO experience of hardware, so I don’t really know what motherboard, grafic card, ram and cooling systems fits to what.

The system should be better than my 3 y.o. mac pro with 8 cores and cost arround 1200€ ($1800-$2000 ca)
When i bought my last PC i had to assemble by myself there was no connecting paste between cpu and cooler and so on :frowning:
The more advenced technology is the easier it seems to break something

Maybe someone of you guys knows a lot about the current hardware and could give me a good sepc.
I would be really greatful!

PM would be great, so we don’t have to push this unimportant thread by each answer!

Thank you very much for the reply.

Im just wondering how the prices in germany are nearly identically to those in america, though the Euro is way more worth than the dollar.

Anyways, sure i will wait with the new system until January, do you think the new hardwere will be out then? What new hardware will be released, CPU, RAM, grafic card? though i don’t need a very good grafic card because im not intending to play on this system, its just for CAD.

the more effective the better. Optic and casedesign isn’t that important to me  though i do really likethe cooler master.

the case i just picked a case that is cheap but also room enough for everything you could need. i use the same case myself. the burner a simple basic one, if you have one from your old build you can use that even.i also picked a bigger psu then you needed to allow room to go sli if you wanted without issue

as for what new hardwear is coming out. you have the new amd bulldozer cpu. you also have the next gen i7 cpu from intel the Sandy Bridge-E. no clue how much of a improvement these chips will be .but at worst case it could lower the prices of the chips out there right now.

there is also new gpu’s coming out soon. i don’t think you want a amd video card but they should have a new one out . nvidia also has there newest refresh that should be coming out around the end of the year. but with tech there is always delays so it is hard to ever say for sure. most of the time is smart not to wait but with new cpu’s being out in like a month thats just to close not to wait it out.

as for the price no clue why they are so close, i would assume cuz they are being imported or something so they get fee’s added on them? just a guess i have no clue really.

there is info on the next intel cpu
