Need a tutorial on how to build a basic bodysuit

Hi,

As the subject line reads. I’m an old newbie with ZB and while I’ve figured out to manipulate previously made things I have NO idea how to build my own basic body suit to create other works from. Is there a tutorial out there for doing this within ZB or using a program like Silo recommended? I’d PREFER to do it all here in ZB if possible.

Thanks!

what is a bodysuit?

Suit that fully covers the body!

I’ve got most of it done using Dynamesh but stuck now on the fingers! The tutorial on how to use Dynamesh is more of an introduction with bits of info therein but not enough to really get into the meat of how it’s done.

Why don’t you mask the areas you want to be clothed and extract them, play with the thickness slider.

For fingers I’d turn dynamesh off, mask off the small portion where one finger would be (the index finger for example), invert the mask, and then use ctrl+transpose to extract it outwards. You can either release and repeat the extraction process to create your edgeloops along the finger as you pull it out, or you can pull the finger all the way out to the desired length and then cut the edge loops in using the Slice Curve brush.

Repeat for the other fingers.

Thanks for the replies. I can’t extract or copy any of the underlying mesh. It’s copywrited. I’ve pretty much taken the long way and almost gotten it done.

OK. Got the bodysuit built. Turned out rather well. Wish there were more polys in the facemask but other than that It’s all good. I started to want to create UV zones for it but something strange and not so wonderful occurred. Using the masking tool to create my sections I found that the mesh seems to spiral, it’s not noticeable to the eye but when trying to create “boot socks” I can’t get a straight line all the way around. Same with the “gloves” I’d like to create. Seems that when pulling things down to create the legs and arms (using the polysphere) I either messed up or something went awry (in my opinion) so things don’t line up so when masking I can never create a line all the way around the appendages!

Is there a way to fix this without having to redo it all? I just hate the idea of starting from scratch, esp with how hard the fingers were to make. YUK! :o

Hope someone can help me with this!

Thanks!

Spiraling is common with automatic retopology, and especially if you used QRemesher. If this is just a basemesh to be pushed around and have other shapes extracted from it, you can create a perfectly straight line by cutting into it with the slice curve brush which would work well enough.

Otherwise, you’d going to have to retopologize it again. You can try your luck with remesh all, do it by hand (would be faster externally but there’s still the zsphere retopology option), or you could try building a shell around it using zspheres and then projecting the result to have it match the form.

Hi,

Are you talking about Remesh All under the Sub-Tools area or something else? Sorry, still learning all this stuff. I guess the QRemesher was too good to be true but it did do a nice job for what it does.

I really have no idea how to go about “building a shell around it using zspheres and then projecting the result to have it match the form” … :o

Also, if I go with Remesh All. What settings would you suggest I try first? Res is set to 64, Polish is set to 10 (and the little circle next to it looks like a donut) and the PolyGRP button is “on”

Eeeek, tries the Remesh All… Set it to 256 Resolution and tried various polish settings. I lost so much detail and no fingers left regardless of what I try. Not what I’m after. Tried the QRemesher using the “same” button, but still giving me the spiral issue. Seemed to even out the mesh (more mesh added to the face mask and less to the fingers).

I guess I could use the curve select brush that I’ve heard of some much and create me OWN UV lines. Yes? No? Hmm, can’t find it. I see the Select Lasso and Select Rect…

b, q to select the QRemesherGuide brush. Very recommended if you’re going to use qremesher on humanoids.

For zspheres just follow any tutorial such as http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dV50cTlQybg , and just build something that encapsulates your mesh. It will work better than remesh all as you can have it cover each finger before using project (remesh would require a high resolution otherwise). Otherwise, remesh is meant to lose detail and just give you a blobby shell; the detail and shape get projected back onto it afterwards.

Manual retopology would be the best bet if there is a particular edgeflow you’re trying to create.

Thanks for your advice and the link to the ZSphere’s tutorial. I got it all done. Happy with what I was able to accomplish.

Needing another tutorial or advice. Now that I have this suit made the one thing that I’m not happy with is that I wasn’t able to figure out how to make proper eye holes and more rounded corners at certain junctures of the the suit zones. The face mask being mostly what I wanted to concentrate on adding in smaller zones. I just let ZBrush do a basic flat mapping using the zones created by the ZSphere’s, which was great as it saved me some time since I liked allot of what was created.

Any advice around this area??

Moving forward quite a bit. Ended up remeshing and got the suit looking the right way. Took the hands and feet off and got a nice clean remesh that had no spiraling so making different zones a joy. Made some boots, gloves and masks with other parts to make this a “Super Suit” for Genesis.

Now I’m working on the cape. I got most of the movement morphs done but… I can’t seem to figure out how to make a mirrored version of this one morph that I want to look exact as a mirror. I did try to mirror it in the Deformation panel but when I apply the morph in my program it pushes the cape inside out and then puts the Right side morphed again. So I must be doing something wrong! Any help in getting a mirrored morph for the cape>>

Thanks for the help!
