Hi all,

Made in Xsi, Zbrush and Photoshop as always.
Hope you’ll enjoy it, here i he is.

Ezra
Very nice. I think he should look a bit more aged, tho
Hi guys,
thank you for the kind words!
@Antone_m: Yeah, rendered in ZBrush, composed in Photoshop.
@sankar82: Karl May disagrees (just joking).
Hi all,
here’s a new sculpt I did in the last two days. Not 100% happy with it, especially the hair, please consider it still WIP. Suggestions are of course welcome! Thanx!
I dig the Chief! Was there a particular American Indian you based him off of? My only critique is that he looks a little pale for a redskin.
I am curious how you did your feathers, did you use fibers?
Again, nice work
Hi,
thank you!
Well, the feathers are XSI Hairs- I’ve chosen to do them in SI, because I couldn’t control the orientation of the fibers at the top in ZB in one step, and I would have had to blend more than one group manually. That’s the only reason, the feathers I made in ZB look better tho (I find the distribution better), but, like I said, are a bit more tricky to set up.
“Was there a particular American Indian you based him off of?”-Not really, I only have this guy from the Street References collection from 3dsk that inspired me.
Hi guys,
here is a small tutorial about making feathers in Zbrush. There are probably better solutions , here is my quick and dirty one.
Start with a plane 3d and convert it to PM3D facing y-axis up. Click on fiber mesh and play with the settings until they look like in the image above, or load the feathers_median.fibre.ZFP preset I attached at the end of this post.
Click Accept, so Zbrush will generate that one fibre only. Select this new created subtool and Unify it (Tool->Deformation-> Unify).
Go in the Tool-> Fibermesh and play with the settings until your fibermesh will look like in the picture above, or load the preset feathers_002.ZPF I attached at the end of this post
4.
Group the clumps of this feather and activate the polygroup automasking feature. Shape the fibers as you wish ( I used the groom hair short, groomBlower and the move tool for this, and clipped the ends of the fibers to get a nice round form).
Convert this fibermesh to a PM3D when you’re ready and shape it further, paint some nice patterns on it and whatever you want, make maybe a lowpoly out of it, bake it to a texture, whatever.
I could also upload a movie showing the process, ifq somebody wants it, but I’m not sure if ZBC accept movies…
I surely hope somebody finds this mini tutorial useful.
featherPresets.zip (22 KB)
Really like the Native American Chieftain…Came out Great…Beautiful work and piece…small_orange_diamond:)
Thanks also for that feather tutorial, and the zip file…Really useful, and very much appreciated…
Glenn
awesome tutorial - thanks.
Both Sculpts are very cool, really like all the detail work on the native american chief…
Hi guys,
thanx for the kind words!
Here is a new model I did in the last few days. Hope you’ll enjoy it…As usual SI base mesh (body) , Zbrush head, overall sculpt and render, Photoshop for texture and composition.
your monkey’s fur looks great!
Thank you, Frederik :)!
Hi, love your work.
I see you uploaded a zfp file. I’m trying to make my own custom fibermesh but I can’t seem to figure out how to do it. How exactly did you create that zfp file?
EDIT: Didn’t check the date of the thread. Darn. Well, does anyone how how to make a zfp file?
this may be a stupid question, but how do i open the ZFP files?
Open the file from the fibermesh panel, it’s settings for fibers
