Well, I’d like to read what does my ZKnight need, to be perfect…hmmm… I don’t speak English well and not sure even how to post my picture.Mmmm waiting…ZZZZZ
Hi Martin and welcome to ZBrush Central!
I’m glad to see your ZKnight posted on ZBrush Central after seeing his progress in your emails over the last few weeks. He’s looking great!
Keep posting your images here!

Cool! I remember seeing that dude in Pixologic’s user gallery. Nice work.
Ohhh, you are a cruel master Gurgler.
Good stuff martin. This has got to be the most impressive picture from a zbrush beginner. How long has it taken you? How long have you been using ZBrush?
Are you keen to show us your first attempt?
Stay in touch.

I remember seeing this in the User’s gallery as well and enjoying it greatly. Wow, beautifully done. I would like to know where you got the inspiration from, the style and face looks Eastern but the sword is not, anyway I am sure he has stories to tell, battles to fight!
What is the cape’s purpose in the picture? Right now it look’s like Robin, the Boy Wonder’s cape. I am guilty of using a cape in a ink and ink drawing of a knight in chain mail because I was so sick of drawing chainmail. Unfortunately, after putting so much detail in the ground, face, armour and sword, you must do just as much in the cape. The capes must have a hem,(edge) a weave, a weight. How does the cloth interact with the knight? If the cape’s nature defies physical logic, it must do so the same way the rest of the image does. Otherwise, there will always be two separate reactions to the picture. One about the knight, and the other about that wierd cloak. The impact is diluted in a major way. Consider how the cloak can serve to dramatize the figure. Perhaps if you looked at some medievil woodcuts or ikons, you would find an exciting resolution that will solve lots of issues.
Wonderful execution, now finish it!
Good image Martin! That is some very impressive modeling on the cloak, sheild, and sword. The rocky soil blends nicely with him as well.
As to the cloak so many have mentioned, I think the shape is fine, you just may want to work on the color. My personal favorite way is to use the SimpleBrush. I turn off Zadd/cut/sub, and lower the intensity to 10 or less. Then I use the different brownish textures and add them in, darkening just a bit with one, then getting another and doing it a bit more…
I think gurgler has some excellent points…I would take his advice and run with it, he sounds like someone who really knows his stuff…Your knight is wonderful, and with time you will understand all the lessons that gurgler attempted to teach you, and it will make your knight breathtaking!.A little constructive critisism goes a lonnnnng way…
I dont think he meant to offend you, but I do think he was giving you good advice.
Hi, ZBRusers, I was happy to see that the only problem of the ZKnight is hiZ cape. In fact the cape needZ more modelling but to do this isn’t easy. Why? Because it was the last mesh I have done and to edit it in a 3000x1800 ZBR scene which has about 2 million polygons put in, you have to be ve-e-e-e-ery patient. I’m not. I have painted the cape, put some ornaments, tried to put some fabric texture with some bump but it doesn’t look good, believe me. I think the mesh is the problem. You can’t see well all details here and be sure when you look at the 16MB.PSD ZKnight the things are a little bit different. Thank you very much for the constructive criticism.
I’m not quite a beginer with ZBRush. I made some scenes using its demo and red some tutorials. Kurisu helped me a lot and I’m very grateful to him. This is my first work using ZBR’s final version. The whole scene took me about 20 hours of hard work and experiments.
About doing chainmails - It’s very easy I think. This is the map I used to make ZKnight’s one (in its optimized .jpg var.). It took me about 15 minutes to create it in Photoshop. It isn’t perfect but with good material looks good enough.
Have a niZe ZBRushing =:)<o<
Hi there Martin,
Any chance of putting a link to a bigger version of your Knight? I would love to see that chain mail close up. Nice alpha. I really like what you have done with the scroll effect on the armour.
Cheers,
S
Hi, Southern,
I haven’t got a web site yet, but if you tell me how big picture you can recieve I’ll send it to you. I can cut it in r01,02,03… parts with RAR. Tell me what method do you prefer. About the chainmail - I used this texture only as a…texture and put some colour bump in material’s adjustments.
I’ve forgot to write about my inspirations doing ZKnight. Well, I like Peter Broegel’s,Heronimus Boches’,Max Ernst’s paintings, hard anime such as: “Fist Of The North Star”, “Ghost in the Shell”, “Ninja Scroll” etc., films like “Shogun Assasin”, “Rebirth In The Dark World”(not sure about the name),“Brazilia”, PC games like “Sanitarium”," I Have No Mouth,But I Must Scream" and so…you understand. This ZKnight is the Commodore of the Z-order. He keeps the pixol’s order and the System from crushing =:). I work on hiZ enemy’s body now. And there will be final battle.
Happy ZBRushing!
