My Polygroup doesnt work

Hello there, I am very new to Zbrush. I have a model with multiple parts and I merged them together. As you can see, different parts have different color.

Then I tried to polygroup ->auto group my mesh, but the polygroup merged them all, all colored bits are gone. And when I do masked select parts and then do Shift+Ctrl+A, the whole mesh show rather than the individual part.

I am wondering what is causing that and how to fix? I dynameshed the whole model (64 resoultion), so the polys are very dense, could that be where the issues are?

Hello @Opheliah

Welcome to ZBrush Central!

What would you like to achieve here?

Auto Groups will assign different polygroups to non-contiguous geometry in the subtool–in other words meshes that are different pieces and not an unbroken surface. Since your mesh is a single unbroken piece after merging, Auto Groups will only assign a single polygroup to the entire mesh.

If you would like to assign different polygroups to sections of your mesh than the ones it currently has, there are many different methods for doing this. On a high resolution mesh such as this, one of the easiest might be just to hide portions of the mesh with the Mesh Visibility functions, and to use Polygroups > Group Visible.

If this is not helpful for what you’re trying to achieve, please elaborate a bit further on what you would like to happen.

Good luck! :slightly_smiling_face:
