My first zBrush sculpt

Hey,

untill now i mostly did interior Renderings but i wanted to share my first zBrush sculpting.
I’ve done that by watching the awesome tutorial from Matt Thorup.
I never used a Tablet before and it was horrible at the beginning, but i think i get used to it more and more.
Anyhow, it’s a heck load of fun and i will definitly do more!

Maybe someone has some critique or advises.

Greetings,
haiquh

Hey this looks great! Well done for your first sculpt. My only feedback might be that her neck is a little long. And make move her eyes, so she isn’t looking straight forward, just to give her some more life. But still, well done.

Hey,

thanks a lot! I definitly will do that.
I think i will try some variations with those “basic functions” to get more used to them and then i have to get through the advanced tutorial, can’t wait!

Hey,

so for practicing i tried to give the character a little khaalesi touch, this was realy fun!
There are some spots i have to put some more love into and facial expression is a realy hard thing, but one step at a time

Still playing arround with the basic functions and brushes i learned during the Tutorial from Matt, but slowly making progress in doing some other parts of a body and accessoires.
I think i will do some more advanced tutorial stuff soon. I’m realy excited, this is realy fun!

She has a very nice feel and color choice. I also like the material transition as her dress fades out near the bottom.

She is the best character you have shown so far for sure.
Great style and much more solid than the others. Keep it coming!

Thanks for the comments guys! I really appreciate it.
I hope after i watched the advanced Tutorial from Matt and get more used to the tablet, that i can improve this model, give her legs, more details, some nice shoes and so on.
One big problem i have is facial expression, i tryed to give her a nice smile but for some reason it looks some kind of unnatural, i think i have to do some researches there.

And maybe i have to try Keyshot at my workplace because at the moment i render with zBrush, it’s okay for those Cartoon-like Characters, but i think there would be better results with Keyshot. Usualy i use vRay in Cinema4D, but my Pc at home is to slow to handle so much Polygons in Cinema when i am exporting the model from zBrush.

But as long i am making progress, i am realy happy!

As i mentioned before i want to make my first complete character, for different poses, expressions and so on.

For this i thought it would be a good idea to create some kind of “Kick off” image, where i am at the moment and
where i want to be when i’m finished with the character.
I did some research for clothes which are not toooo complicated to sculpt i think.
I dont know how to approach the shoes at the moment, but maybe i will figure this out when i’m done with the tutorial
from Matt. Any advice from you guys is very welcome!

At the moment i’m in the middle of sculpting the base body and i think there is something wrong with the belly and hips,
i think a have to look at some images to fix this.

A little update:)

Did the Base of hands, legs, feets, dress and shoes today.
I have to add some more details and polish everything a bit tomorrow.

Any advice and critique is very welcome! Thank you!

My first impression would be her torso is too long. From the top of the head to the crotch is usually the same distance as the crotch to the bottom of the foot (sitting down flat). I would also suggest making her torso a bit wider from the bottom of the ribcage up to the shoulders. I can understand the hips you may want to be wide but I feel the shoulders are a bit too close.
I would do a google search for female proportions to get an idea of what I mean. I look forward to seeing your updates as I believe she will come out looking great.

Thank you Daniel!
This helps a lot, i will do some researches today and modify the anatomy as you sayed.
As i sayed before, i thought there was something wrong too, with the belly. Maybe thats it!

So, here she is. My first complete zBrush character:)

Any critique and Advice is very welcome!

Well, technically, I’d say for a cartoon or even stylized character, your proportions are fine. You aren’t going for a realistic, so 6 heads as the general rule,(*yes it’s a rule :).) doesn’t apply here. I get a good feeling of her proportions. Very Disney like, possibly Dreamworks as well. I do know there are some great tutorials on Google search of character sheets. import a few and compare your proportions. You’ll see, that roughly you’re pretty dead on for a stylized character.

Keep it up man, you’re doing exceptionally well.

^ 6 HEADS??? “YUCK”… MORE like “8”
“Loomis” , “Bammes” etc…

But anyway, great job for a first full body sculpt, with the polypaint and all…

Your off to a phenomenal start, she has allot of appeal…

You’re probably a couple of subdivisions to HIGH, if I’m being constructive. She appears to be about 2 to 5 million and that’s way overkill for such simple shapes.

Hey,

I do stand corrected, I had meant to say for their character cartoon can be 6, but yes 8 is for realistic proportions. My bad. Thank you for correcting my mistake in typing :).

very good start

Thanks a lot guys! I’m very happy about that positive feedback!
Never heard of the 8 Head rule, thats very interessting, did already some research about that.
I will definitely do more, maybe i try some more realistic stuff. I realy want to get into hard-surface modelling too.
Never expected that zBrush is so much fun! Thank you!

Edit: Ah, and the polycount is a thing i definitely have to look at because the girl has a polycount of 10,5 million in total, i think thats a “bit” too much haha

What tutorials are you watching? These are great for your first few sculpts!

Thanks a lot EvilSniper!

Actually i just watched a couple of zBrush classroom Tutorials to know how the UI works,
and to learn some techniques i watched the realy realy awesome tutorials from Matt Thorup.
There are 2, one for most of the basic stuff and a second one with more advanced stuff.
Each step is very well explained, you get some brushes, a nice and usefull custom UI, i realy can recommend them!
