My first attempt at a likeness (help and crit needed)

Doing a piece of work for 3D printing, and really need to get a likeness, which I have never tried. Obviously, since it will be printed I can’t rely on textures for the likeness (which is what I have done in the past).

I have, what I think, is all the major features spot on, but it still looks nothing like the reference, anyone care to cast their expert eye over it and tell give me some pointers of what I need to focus on to approach a good likeness.

This will obviously move on to the body once I get the head right. PaulFront1t.jpg

Is this thread in the wrong place? or do I just need to be more patient?

Hi Gordon,
I think you are going on the right way with the face, try other materials to do the renders, when you place the ears it will
be more interesting to see, please keep posting
If you have some time take a look in my scketchbook its in the second page of threads,
Best regards
Fernando

Cheers mate. I will be getting back at this ones the New Year festivities are over. First stop - ears.

Spent a lot of time messing with it. Feel like I’m getting closer. Obviously hair is just shapes at the moment.

Sorry Gordon I just saw this.
I saw the thumbnail and thought it was David Hasselhoff.
I see what you are trying to do. The profile is looking pretty good.
Keep at him I’m sure you’ll get it.

Hehe no worries. I think he looks like the hoff now too :frowning:

I plan to nail it tomorrow

Hi Gordon,
Nice improvement, i second what was said,
You sure are going on the right way, bit by bit it falls in to place
Keep pushing and soon you will get there :+1:
Cheers
Fernando

Cheers mate. Spent some time tonight retopologising and then tweaking at a much lower level to get closer. Much happier. Just need to get rid of the sneery look of the moth, but time for bed. An views?

Much closer now!

Cheers mate. I think if I can tweak the mouth a little and just get the shape of the face right it will be there.

A little more work today. His hair needs to be a lot messier. Anyone one of a good tutorial on doing hair, remembering that it’s for 3D print?

… for he is the Kwisatz Haderach!
Nice work so far on Muad’dib  Look forward to seeing him completed

He’s come a long way Gordon!
No more Hoff left in him. He’s looking the part now.

Cheers Guys.

Started to block out the still suit. Just trying to get the major shapes right before going into any detail.

i must say that you really did a good job with the head. You really improve each picture. Its great that you dont give up. The suit looks nice, are you going to do everything in zbrush, i mean with the suit?

Thanks. Yeh, everything will be Zbrush, as the intention is for it to be printed.

Just learning as I go about sub-tools. Made the hand a subtool so that it’s easier to scultp the sleeve, and made a subtool for the piping on the suit.

Anyone know how I can clone/mirror the hand. When I try to do it the normal way it says I can’t do it with multiple levels, but I don’t want to lose them. Hand.jpg

You can either get subtool master pluging and click on mirror, or delete the lower subdivisions and go on deformation and mirror it, then you can reconstrct the lower subdivisions, on the Reconstruct Subdivisions option under geometrymenu if Im not mistaken…

Thanks, I’ll take a look at that.
