my brush palette is now minute - help! [Solved]

The other day I made my zbrush window smaller so as to follow a tutorial on a web page (I’m on a 13" macbookpro)
and since then , though I have made my window full size again my brush palette remains small and the name of the brush are unreadable as only a few letters for each show.
I have reinit zbrush, checked I had not accidentaly save the narrow window as a cutom ui for startup… nothing!

if any of you have an idea of what is happening, please let me know, I saw nothing in the troubleshooting pages, but perhaps I missed something.

Many thanks to all!
U

Could you show a complete screen shot of your interface? See http://www.zbrushcentral.com/announcement.php?f=101

Also, what is your display resolution?

Aurick, many thanks for your posting and my sincere apologies for missing the rule about posting info and a screen grab. It makes perfect sense, my bad for not thinking of that.
I enclose a grab with the brush palette open - it USED to fill almost all of my screen. I haven’t changed anything in my mac setup. Resolution: 1280x800, macbook pro 2.4 ghz core2duo 8 megs ram lion 10.7.2
The problem is I can’t read the name of the brushes anymore.

Many many thanks!
U
please forgive my terrible english

That is not a complete screenshot. You cut off the top. If you are worried about the number in the upper left corner, it is not a serial number.

Oh good - I was worried about my investement ending up in torrent-land!

here is the full screenshot then with apologies for my ignorance.

Thanks for the info.
U.

I think you’ve inadvertently turned off Preferences>Interface>Wide Buttons. Turn it on and save the config (Shift+Ctrl+i). You’ll need to restart ZBrush to see the effect.

Just tried that … nope, sorry, it doesn’t change the problem:(

but thanks for the suggestion!

Press Preferences>Config>Restore Standard UI and then Preferences>Config Restore Custom UI.

done… no change :cry:small_orange_diamond:cry:

voodoo in zbrush UI?

many thanks in any case!

I’ve no idea why your interface is stuck with a small brush palette. It should have gone back to its default size when you reset your ZBrush window and certainly should not have ‘stuck’ after a restart. The only other thing I can think of to try is deleting the ZStartup/ConfigFiles/ZBrushWindowStartupSize.cfg file and restarting ZBrush.

thanks Marcus, I’m going to try that - cheers!

You need to increase the size of the ZBrush window, or reduce the number of brushes.
ZBrush will use wide-icons if (and only if) your window is large enough to contain wide-icons palettes.

Thanks for you answer, I did not add brushes between the time the window was “normal” and the time it shrunk. I wish there was a way to grab the edge of the brush palette and ûll to make it larger but it doesn’t seem to be possible (or am I a klutz?)

thanks for any info you have

I think Support is referring to the size of the ZBrush window. Even still, I think it would be worth temporarily removing any Brushes you have in the ZStartup/BrushPresets folder. Restart ZBrush and see if your wide buttons are restored, then if all is OK, add the brushes back a few at a time. If you find that the number of brushes is causing the issue, leave some out.

great idea Marcus, I’ll try that as soon as I’m back in front of the sculpting machine!

cheers

at last I identified the problem thanks to support, Marcus and their ideas: I looked in the brush preset folder were I have 2 bruhes of mine, thinking the cause of the problem could not be there… well what do you know? somehow 2 zproject files ended up saved in that folder (big ones). I moved them and…
lo and behold all is back to normal.

Thanks again guys, this is a great community!
