Muscular spider-beast

Hi everyone!
It’s been a while I didn’t post some new works here, always been here looking at those awesome works people continue create. ZB3 really changed my workflow, the way I think to a model and most important I started to enjoy modeling again, experimenting with my meshes and in the same time trying to be as coherent as I can with my ongoing studying of anatomy.
Obviusly this model doesn’t want to be a spider in the strict meaning, it has some influences from spider world but I wanted really to create some fantastic beast, so yes it has not 8 legs I now
I was looking for a very powerfull feeling, a huge beast to be afraid of. I left from spiders what I didn’t think would fit in a concept like that and instead used what could help the overall feeling I wanted to give to it.
Hope you like it guys, I learned a lot from this creature and for sure it’s a good starting point to realize what to improve to get next model to the further step:)

 Nice Work!! go on:lol:

lodenfactory,
I’m going to be watching this thread if you take this beasty further. There are several things I’d like to know. First, is this just a fun study, or do you have any more plans for the concept? Do you plan to texture? Is the creature part of a story? In your intro into the model it sounded like you were moving on to another project, if so thats great. But, I would find it interesting to see this fella finished out and put into a scene. I believe this one deserves to be brought to completion. Just my two cents

Thanks guys to take the time to answer!
Well, seems I have to detail a bit my intention…At first surfing the web I saw a sketch done by an artist ( i don’t remember the name, sorry ) of a 4 legged creature similar to the one I end up modeling but I just like some of the features so I decided to take that concept as a starting point, an idea or an inspiration. I didn’t plan to texture it and I will not because of two reasons:

  1. I want to be a modeler and not a texture artist and this model is not part of an illustration, so textures just wasn’t planned as part of this “project”.
  2. I want to build up a modeling reel so I’m not really interested right now creating texture maps.
Aside from that, texturing is really what I like most in cg beside modeling so I’m sure that in the future I will have a lot of fun texturing it but right now my target is just modeling. This not means I will not give it a nice lookin’ shader with a good lighting…
That said, I plan to create an environment for this little puppy but something to relates it to humans, just to realize the dimensions and obviusly something that will fits in a reel.
So what you mean hyper1 when you said “finished”? Do you mean more details? Adjusting proportions? I’m posting here just for that, to get some kind of help and suggestion…all you know that if you leave your eyes to a model for too long u just start missing thing
    Thanks again

lodenfactory,
Sense I didn’t know your background or about the building of a specific type of demo reel (modeling, texturing, environment, etc.) I couldn’t make specific comments except to say I liked what I saw! But, now that you’ve clarified your direction maybe suggestions will be easier. Modeling, by the way, is my favorite part of the process. A small environmental turn table would make sense for this character. Maybe, human, beasty, rock, and dead tree or logs might fill out the requirement. Have fun!

Really cool concepts and awesome anatomy sculpts!! Definitely want to see your next stage with this creature. I will be looking forward for next updates.

Rubbish, garbage i am reporting this to a moderator because the quality is simply too low for a site such as this.

hehe just kidding big fellah, I rate this very high amongst your works, i love the way that the mucsles wrap around the legs and body. you really get the sense that there is flesh and bone underneath the surface of the model. I would like to see the fangs/bitey bits to be a bit more menacing, other than that, this is a solid piece of work

Ahahah hitch little bastard
Thx and about the fangs, you get the point…I’m not really happy with them, I can’t understand if it’s just a matter of the overall size or just the size of the 2 big one on the sides or maybe a problem with their shape…but I have the same feeling too, thanks to point it out! I don’t imagine it hunting with those fangs, its killing “weapon” are the front claws…but right now I’m wondering how to make them more interesting…
Thanks everyone, hope to have time soon to update the model!

Hi guys,
sorry to be late with updates but I was a little busy the past week.
Anyway I take a bit of time just to collect ideas and comments and trying to figure out what has to be fixed and how, looking at anatomy charts etc…
In the end I did both minor changes and drastic ones.
Changed a bit the shape of the back of the head, make the body longer and just a little thinner. The big changes happened to the legs, the back ones become stronger because before they seems to me a bit weak for that kind body and the front ones…well I completely “re-design” the whole anatomy looking mainly to horse’s legs, now it’s really more believeble I think.
Enough talk, now images

Done that I will move on doing the little environment for the turntable and starting with the shading part.
Looking forward for your suggestion!

Very nice sculpting! :+1: :+1: :+1:

Nice Sculpting. The front and back legs share an uncanny similarity to the monster in Cloverfield.

Awesome sculpt! The anatomy is great, and very feasable.
Lets see some texturing on this bad boy! And some nasty thick hairs

Thanks very much guys,
started to work on the texture of the body…Right now it’s very rough, hope to work more on it in the next days!
The lighting is temporary because it’s flattening a bit the shading, have to find out a better solution

Hope you like it!

Absolutely stunning. I love it

everything looks awesome except the eyes. for some reason they really arent working for me. the body is wonderful though. you may want to render at a slightly sharper angle to show off the beasts detail on the majority of the body.

you should look up how to put that in doom 3… that would be awesome!

That’s awesome - makes we want to break out
my holy avenger and get to butt kicking!! :+1: :+1:
Def. could use some gnarly hairs and moisture
around the mouth. I guess I don’t know if
spiders have wet mouths, but this guy looks
pretty fleshy- droool!! and droool trail

Looking great :+1: :+1:

When I saw it, I had an image of it lurking behind a piece of furniture for some reason.

Great job It’s like awesome
