multiple uv, maya/xsi and zbrush ?

Hi guys, i’m having a pretty serious issue here…it’s kinda rush…

i have a in zbrush then i exprot to maya and change the uv, then i bring bk to zbrush with the lowest lvl, then i go back up the the highest subdivision but it mess up.
on the other hand, i obj that i export from brush i bring it into xsi and change the uv, then export again to zbrush and go back to the highest subdivision, it works ok, what’s wrong with this??

it’s still can replace the mesh, but once igo back to the highest detail using maya exported obj, everything mess up…

can anyone help me? really in urgent… by the way, if my objext have multiple uc sets, how can i deal with it in zbrush and maya? is the model exported from zbrush inverted? thx…

If by ‘mess up’ you mean the vertices go haywire and your mesh basically explodes, it means you’ve somehow changed your vertex order during the import/export process.

yeah, it expplodes the whole mesh…i didn’t change anything tho…is th euv will affect this?

This is a major issues hopefully it will be adressed with some kind of update. We all are looking for temporary solutions now until the problem is fixed.

No, changing UV’s will not affect your vertex order. Common things that do change the order are: Compressing or Optimizing geometry, Triangulation/Quadrangulation, Merging objects, and a many more. You can also change your vertex order by doing sub-object level adjustments to your mesh… IE) adding an extra edgeloop, or deleting a vertex, etc.

I have worked out a work flow for these sort of problems. I found that when I bring my low res mesh into maya to lay out uvs i will cut the mesh in half at some point, so i dont have to uv both arms and legs etc. This will change the vertex order and cause your model to explode when reimporting into zbrush. You can use mesh>transfer attributes in maya to transfer the new uvs to the model that has the vert order zbrush likes. Unfortuantly i dont know what the equivilent of transfer attributes is in max. Maybe a max user can chime in on this. Good luck.

From a max user: Don’t even bother. There is a plugin available for Max that will actually do what you’re after, but the Max 9 exporter/importer is apparently broken and will reorder your verts regardless. I spent all of last week trying to find a way to make it work, but it doesn’t. In the end, for UV’s (if you’re a max user), either do it ahead of time, or use UVLayout or Roadkill.
