Looking for a low cost modeling program that can handle assigning multiple UV regions to allow the use of the Multidisplacment Plugin in ZBrush. Hexagon or Silo come to mind. Could not find information about this UV functionality in those apps. Wings?, Blender?.. Anyone know?.. This question is in response to Aruick’s statement below:
In order for the MultiDisplacement plugin to work, your mesh needs to have the coordinates assigned in non-overlapping regions. For example, a figure’s head could use coordinates ranging from 0,0 to 1,1. The body could be from 1,0 to 2,1. The hands could be 0,1 to 1,2. The clothing could be from 1,1 to 2,2. Some very complicated or detailed models might actually have a couple dozen such regions! This is very different from a program such as Poser, for example, where all the parts overlap each other in the region from 0,0 to 1,1.
Some of the more sophisticated animation packages make this kind of mapping available.
ZBrush will then see these multiple regions and recognize that maps need to be created for each. In addition, when you import a mesh that has been mapped with such a layout, you can also press Tool>Polygroups>Uv Groups to assign a different colored polygroup to each UV region automatically. This is very handy when adding high resolution detail to a model.
