Multi-Marker Sword

Bought ZBrush a few moths ago (Which is fantastic by the way) and have used it a lot without having anything to show for it. I’ve been trying to get to grips with Markers with a view to creating 3d objects for export into Poser, Bryce & other 3d apps. This sword is the modest result of hours of learning the program, experimenting and swearing a lot. The skull is imported from Poser and the Sun decorations are Alphas converted to 3D tools. I shall post this Sword on my site in the next day or two as a freebie download. I’m still trying to get the file size down by lowering the poly count of the decorative suns without having to lose them or use something else.

It will be in Wavefront format. I may include a texture map but I haven’t found out how to preserve material properties in ZBrush’s export function, so all you’re getting are the base colours. In Bryce, you can ungroup the different parts of the sword to edit it’s properties although I’ve had some strange results up to now. I’m pretty sure you can’t ungroup an imported object in ZBrush… please tell me if I’m wrong, but it seems to import fine back into ZBrush… it’s just that as far as I know, you can only assign one material to the whole sword which looks a bit pants.

Cheers,

Tim

welcome timw and nice sword, lots have trouble
with multi markers but you catch on quickly
great first post looking forward to seeing more.

Hey Tim

Your sword imported into ZBrush will be one object rather than groups but using TextureMaster you can ‘paint’ on separate materials for each part of the sword.

To make this easier, I would separate the parts along one axis (along its length in the case of your sword) prior to importing, paint each part with the appropriate material then use masking and the Tool>Deformations>Offset function to bring all the parts back together again.

And materials are native to ZBrush, so they can’t be exported. Also, if you have an object in ZB with materials assigned, then export it and re-import it, the materials will be lost.

If you’re interested, we had a challenge a while back for fantasy weapons, which included several swords. Fantasy weapons challenge

Welcome to the forum Tim. Nice sword.

For your problems with the materials check

this thread..

If you want to preserve the suns and they are modeled. You might consider painting them on the sword.

Thanks for the encouragement & help chaps!

Cheers,

Tim

Just a quick note, you can’t give the sword away if you include the skull from Poser as you would be breaking Curious Labs copyright. Change the skull for a pommel or somesuch and there will be no problem.
Nice sword, btw.

Thanks for telling me Nightraven… never even thought about that

the sword is nice but i think it could use a little touch up on the edge give it a little more “pop” to it if u now what i mean :+1:
