Movie Designs

Hey Guys,

I just thought that I would post some designs that I did last year ,for the film “The Hills Have Eyes”.The DVD is out and Zbrush is mentioned as my design tool of choice!! I have not seen all the behind the scenes ,but I know it does include some of these designs, and me doing one of the make ups.

When I did these designs, I only had Zbrush for about 3 months( Yikes!), and had very little experience with 3D. I only had about a week to do all of them, so, I have to say I would love to do all of them over ,and do them better, but this is where I was last year in Z-land.

I have used Zbrush for designs on quite a few films lately like “Texas Chainsaw massacre- the beginning”, “Grind house” .“Masters of Horror”& “spiderman 3” among others.
But since it takes so long for a movie to come out , I can’t post the images yet ,the studios get a little pissy about that :frowning:

So here are the comps with the original designs and how the make ups turned out, with the exception of the Papa Jupiter character , this concept was cut.

Thanks Zbrush!!

Hey man I cant believe im seeing this on here. just bought the hills have eyes dvd and saw that zbrush comment on the extra features. so u hadnt used zbrush for very long and created those designs?? how long did they take u? i would really love to learn zbrush but i dont own it yet. do u think its easier to model in zbrush or maya? right now i have some models that id love to add detail to with zbrush but am afraid that learning zbrush AND maya at the same time will be too confusing. any tips/advice would be great. do u have a website??

That is some badass stuff… thanks for sharing.

great too see you guys are useing Z-brush!

these are nice, really helps you to visuilize what you want.
the best thing about it in my opinion…is it gives you something to show your sculptors etc… of what it is you have in your head, and want them to mimic, in 3D!
I know when I work in a shop and they have no designs, it can be very frustrateing trying to get what it is they really want. with designs, you see what it is they have in their head, and can now grasp that “feel” and copy it.
i love that!

great stuff!

its an honor to be in the same post as you. That right there is some incredible work.Havent seen the movie yet… but im gonna watch it now just cause Ive seen the work youve done.

Did a great job picking it up so fast. Love the designs, they make me smile:) (yeah… I have issues).

Great work.

Congratulations! Wonderfull job and a great use of Zbrush. :+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

Can we see more of your work, please

awesome stuff, scarey movie

Great job on the characters! ZBrush doesn’t come boxed with talent, just great tools to go with the talent you obviously have. Awesome!

Very exciting! I will have to get the dvd now. Thank you for showing these!

Wow! top row?

I wish the work was less rushed, or at least more recent.:o
I will try to find more pics from the design phase of this film, and post them.

Bonesone4: I had just over a week to get these done, I did some pre-designs
the week before, but these were done from the directors notes.

Thanks for the kind words, and top row.

great work man, kickass movie too!

its cool to see these. I rented the dvd last week and saw the special features docu showing your zbrush work, I immediately went online and tried to find your website/portfolio, but couldn’t find anything cept for your imdb listing.

anyway, very cool work. The creatures in that movie looked fantastic.

-K.

Too bad the Jupiter one was cut. That is seriously cool.

So how do you use zbrush here? Sculpting from scratch? texturing? What other apps are involved?

I think that you said that they’re designs. Does that mean that after creating the model/rendering and it’s approved then that’s it for the 3d assets or do they get used in other ways?

I hope you don’t mind me asking. I’m just curious about the process.

Thanks

I must confess to be totally ignorant of “The Hills Have Eyes” project.
Perhaps some one could shine a light for me on the story etc.

Fine work as ever Mr Patton.

nice… it was the sickest movie i have ever seen though

have to agree on pixelsoul with that one lool the first movie that actually impressed me (horror movie I mean  ) Really sick really wicked and great movie lol.

the characters we see in the movie are they 3D or are the desings used as reference and then some sort of mask/make up is made out of it?

greets

Wow, nice creepshow, I love it! Amazing work :+1: :+1:

Great to see the work here. As Ryan mentioned, I’ll have to get the movie as well. I find that I see far fewer features working in the industry, especially as I get on. Maybe I’m just losing it, cause this looks pretty cool.
