- Mountain Troll - ( work in Progress )

I started to work on this guy some while ago and I thought, now with the new zbrush, it´s time to improve and finish him.

I was inspired by a picture from the mountain troll in one of the Harry Potter films. I don´t want to create an exact copy of the original, so I will change maybe some parts here and there. The body is just blocked out for now, after I´ve refined the hands and feet I want to pose him for a more lively look and then work more on the body. great subject looking foward to where you go with this.

Thank you Point!

Still looking for interesting proportions, but maybe it´s out of balance at the moment.

Looks great, waiting for the details! :+1:

Thanks Bas

Indeed you can use intresting proporsions here. Bigger feet are nice. But if you look at the head its really small. The size between the is a bit to big I think. The hands are ok.

I like the proportions , and the face structure.
I was just discussing bodybuilding with a friend the other day and mentioned about how large the body can get but the head will stay the same size.

nice work

Yes, the head is very small in relation to the rest of the body but I think it fits well to the character, don´t you think?, I´m open for suggestions.

Working more on the shape of the body

I love your render at the first post. Was it a ZBrush render? I think that the head is fine with him; he’s a giant. He is like eight or nine heads tall, which is why his head is so small. Maybe it could be wider, though? I dunno, just thinking while typing  His belly looks weird, why is it that it looks like that? You using a reference?

Thanks Quester, the render was just a quick test in MentalRay. Still have to figure out how it works, because I think I can get better results with a real renderer.
Umm, about the belly, I used some reference. But I agree that there is something strange about it. I´m still not sure about the design choices, maybe it´s the neck area, or the way the head connects to the neck, which doesn´t work well together.

Maybe he needs a lower neck? I dunno. ZBrush is good for playing around with proportions. You say a quick render in mental ray. U used maya or max or something? I like the render :stuck_out_tongue: I’m not the best renderer…er

the render was done in max. I´ve used the fast skin material with low reflectivity and some stronger at the edges. Final Gather was on.For lighting, I´ve just used one area light. the rest is coming from reflecting a simple gradient in the environment slot. I´m not very good in rendering, too, but I want to give it a try for the troll

I think the proportions, combined with the vacant expression, show that a small brain is in control of a large body, and you would loose that if you played around with the tall triangular silouette.

He’s coming along nicely Grugi,
keep it up.

thank you Lucky_1

Some more angles of the head, this time with eyes and teeth for the poor guy
