More Resolution Pls!

I need help developing a work around for a specific problem…

For my work I often have to re-assemble or re-touch scan data from bronze sculptures. The scans are very dense and cannot be decimated any further without ringing alarm bells to the artists. More often than not Zbrush cannot keep up with the resolution of our scanner.

Workflow: Load scans, duplicate, dynamesh, divide, project.

In this particular example the whole of the scanned parts equals approx 28 mil points.

My model that has been dynameshed and divided is nearly 80 mil points…and its not enough. I still have a drop off in resolution.

?How do I get more resolution into my model?

Attached is just a tiny section of a very dense (surface texture) sculpture. Sculpture scan on Left. Zbrush model on Right.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hey blkbrd, there’s a few things you can do to bring your poly count down while holding resolution in certain areas.

On your new duplicated dynameshed model, mask the areas not getting enough resolution, invert the mask and subdivide. Clear the mask and subdivide again, then reproject.

Or you can use Zremeshers ‘PolyPaint Mesh Density’ to increase the resolution in the same areas needed as before.

Fill your model with white first (rgb 100), then mask those areas, blur your mask a few times, invert the mask, and fill with (2)Light Pink - Twice the density, or (4)Red 4 times density.

You could also use Zremesher Guides brush to indicate where you want topology flow.

Hope this helps ~ Cheers :]

Thanks for the reply Bangers.

The issue in this particular model is that there is no room to adjust mesh density. The surface of the model is jammed packed with detail. I need more everywhere!

In the past it hasn’t really been an issue because scanned artwork was being reduced for 3D printing. You hardly noticed the fall off in resolution when we went smaller.

But now we have a large format printer and we are printing for monuments…you see everything.

Thanks again for reaching out and offering a hand!
