More Mats for the Masses

I’ve been working on materials all weekend. I thought I’d post a couple.

Styrofoam - The colored version uses the “Spectrum” texture and the dirty foam uses the “Txtr28” texture.

Vinyl - The colored version also uses Spectrum.

The object is one that was posted by Lemo on another thread.

Looks great! Squishy foamy stuff. The last one looks very real. I’m happy the UV’s work nicely.

Hey thnx …will have to try these out soon…very gracious of you…and appreciated by me.

…up to date

Glad to see some find these useful.

Lemo, UV’s are great :+1: It is a great model for testing new mats with the variety of surfaces. I usually put something like it, a cube and a sphere while working on mats. A mat will often work on a curved surface but not on a flat one. I should have mentioned that I create all mats with default lighting, so the way they look is reliable.

I went through a knot phase a few months ago with the free knot programs I found on Frenchy’s thread. I’m definitely going to give the method on the current knot thread (jmeyers I think?) a try. That would be good for laces, stitching and weaves.

Now I know what it reminds me of. The last mat is the ultimate vinyl garden hose mat. Unfortunately the knot generators leave you with auv like uv maps. So, if you have a valuable knot you like to texture with some default texture, just send it to me and I’ll unwrap it for you. Strangely I like the tedious unwrapping. It’s a very mellow meditative task. Snip Snap, nuge pull… stitch…
Like tailoring/sewing. UVLayout is a great prog for that.

Lemo,

That is exactly what I’m bad at. Thanks so much for the offer and I’ll keep that in mind in the future. I’ll have to go through my knots. I’m feeling a little knotty anyway. (OK,OK - bad joke:rolleyes: ) It sounds like you get the same pleasure out of that as I do from creating materials.

People on this board have given me so much I’m going to try and give back a lot more often. This board is an example of what the whole online community could be. What good does it do to gain knowledge if you don’t pass it on so others can add to it? (and the lilting spectral sounds of a violin play gently in the background)

And Lensflares flashing up???

:+1: cool thanks a lot;)

Erklaerbar,

You are most welcome.

I’m going to keep this thread running and keep adding materials as time alows. Happy Turkey Day all.

Hi, Blaine, darned if that doesn’t look like styrofoam! You really nailed it. Such a strange material to try to achieve. You’re grass materials are great, too. 50.

Thanks 50 - You can only do so many metals, skins etc… before you realize what you need is everyday materials like cardboard, papers and the like.

I’m wrapping up one contract and starting another at the same time so don’t loose faith I’ll follow through with more everyday mats. Christmas may be great for retail but I gotta grab every dime I can. I’m one of those people who can amuse myself by sitting mindlessly tweaking materials for hours.
