Monsters of 1528 :)

Take a look at the “detail” of the temptation of St Anthony
Very colorful isn’t it ?
And no many difference with the monsters of today
Paintings of Grünewald
Pilou

that is wild, you would think it was a modern day painting

That looks very ‘modern’, even more so than the Hieronymous Bosch paintings. The Isenheimer Altarpiece made me immediately think of Lord of the Rings, see an orc falling in the background and Gimli in front of his forebears stone coffin

When I get rich I want to buy your brain Pilou, or at the very least the finger you use for clicking your way to these inspirational links. I would buy your whole body but you would have to live under the stairs in a small closet and eat Marmite every morning. That is to cruel so I’ll settle for ZBC  Thanks for the link(s) Frenchy :+1:

But I am not for sell

Ps
About the painting
And you don’t see all the picture, there is a very funny bear on the up left, but any site make a close up on it :frowning:

very very interesting artwork. And those closeups detailing the works look like zbrush monsters for sure…I find it amazing they painted these oils onto wood canvass if I understood right.

One thing I find amazing and most interesting about old works like that and in those time periods, is the religious icons and themes and also the fact that people hundreds of years ago enjoyed making monster images then also…just like we do today…Maybe that is saying people never change, only their tools  Imagine had they had ZBRUSH access back then…will be a kewl thing to discuss with them in the afterlife.

:+1: :sunglasses: :+1:

Great link Pilou.

I came across this painting when researching for my picture along with those of Brueghel (The Beggars).

The thing that has always struck me is how ‘unscary’ or cartoony a lot of the monster representations were then. It seems like they had quite a different idea of horror, as well as maybe madness.

For sure
They were early or were are lately ?
Or better, terror of the unknow is universal and untemporal
