Not strictly Zbrush problem, but figured chances were good someone here
might have had same problem.
Have dual monitors, yesterday used GoZ to send a model to Maya 2009.
While in Maya, was practicing in uv texture editor and uv lay out.
During the course of selecting vertices, screen went blank and an error
message using the word amdkmdap appeared.
Shut programs down, repeated same drill
Same results, only this time on my screen there are now two sets of “horizontal banding” onmain monitor. Reconfigured monitors, reinstalled drivers for graphics card
( ATI Radeon HD 4850).
Did a few searches on the net, could find nothing.
Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thank you
I would completely reinstall drivers.
Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers no help…(from AtI)
As a matter of fact for a few minutes made problem worse.
After installing drivers from Ati Computer would not recognize second monitor.
So using Vista recovery, installed original driver, second monitor
came back but so did banding.
Thank you for answering
http://www.techmonkeys.co.uk/Thread-display-driver-amdkmdap-stopped-responding-and-has-successfully-recovered -from page-read second post “Also you could try a utility to completely remove the ATI drivers as sometimes they leave older files behind or do not completely overwrite them with the latest dll’s”
Hey Bic I think u have a vista prob try disabling Aero from ur desktop and doing the windows basic desktop. Either that or upgrade to windows 7.
Jawa 64 had read that post, downloaded the program (free).
Same thing, Did restore to previous… nothing.
Tuso: Aero?
Also have two computer wired to one monitor, one mouse, one keyboard.
2nd monitor was disconnected and attached to other computer.
On computer with only one monitor attached (first one) banding now gone.
On computer with second monitor attched no problem.
When I go back to first setup banding appears.
Unfortunately the original setup is all the graphic programs, tablet, etc
that I need the second monitor for. To reconfigure would be a large, very
large, pain in the ass. But at least have ascertained that it isn’t a hardware( monitor issue).
One pain in the ass.
Bic he means try this

Regarding Aero, sorry to have been so dense.
Had turned that off about two years ago when I bought
the computer(s) in favor of classic menu.
However to test it switched to Aero and the error message popped
up in about 2 secs.
New problem this morning, second monitor is now blank.
Second monitor also has TV (HD) abilities and that works.
Looks like a job for Hewlett Packard.
Thank you all very much for your time and suggestions.
When problem resolved will update
Might want to check the monitor settings

Spaceman, many thanks.
I have spent the last two days with these settings, I woke up
about 3:00am setting the refresh rate in my sleep.
Fortunately,or unfortuately, all signs point to hardware issues.
The fortunate part is that I keep renewing the service contract
on the computers.
The unfortunate part is that the problem is a display one on the
computer that has all the graphics, Vue, Poser, Maya,Photoshop,
Zbrush, textures, hdri, reference photos etc.
It will probably take me about two days just to back what I can up.
Then comes the phone call to India.
I am guessing, format, box computer, ship computer, wait.
Thank you again.
Lonely here.
Ran Hardware Diagnostics ( HP program) on video card.
System crashed.
Called HP ( customer service agreement).
Told her hardware, she says software, I say hardware, she
says software…format.
Under her instructions started computer in Safe Mode with Networking.
Both screens came up…no banding.
( by the way in safe mode with…you can go online… did not
know that).
In any case she won the argument, if it had been hardware, would not
have gotten that far.
At the moment am running recovery (format)
A lot of work ahead.
Thank you all for your help, the bottom line was there was a software
conflict with the graphics card
Get a new graphics cards. Spend a few bucks to save yourself a lot of time.
Best of luck
Update ( thanks Lemonnado!).
After spending the entire day on phone with Hewlett Packard.
After doing a total recovery of a system it took months to
put together.
After talking with 9 ( that is correct 9 )people at HP.
Conclusion finally reached that I need a new graphics card.
Am shipping to Hewlett Packard, they are handling under warranty.
Must add this, people at Hewlett Packard, all nine of them, were
extremely nice, kind, patient and unfortunately inept.
Received an education.
I have tried connecting the PC to another monitor and its working fine so I have come to the conclusion it must be the monitor that has the problem. the problem flicks on and off all the time. I’ve tried adusting the resolution and restting the monitor to factory default.
Problem finally resolved.
One whole day on phone with over 8 separate people ( totally serious)
Finally late in day, product support agrees to provide me with a graphics
card. This after computer was formatted and a lot of work lost.
Sent computer to Hewlett Packard, they had it for one week and it came
back with the problem solved.
IT WAS THE MOTHERBOARD!!!
They replaced it, am in the middle of second day of 14 hours putting
Humpty Dumpty back together again.
Thank everyone for their help and pm’s
