Modify brush (RGB) to work on edges only (answered)

Hi,
I am trying to create a brush for polypainting that works on sharp edges only. A bit like a curvature brush but so far I did not have any good results. I guess what I would need is a negative “Preserve Edge” Brush Option but obviously that doesn’t exist. Is there another way ?

thanks.

Examine the Trim Dynamic Trails brush and it’s automasking properties for clues how this is done. Or just use that brush as a base and modify some of it’s properties, it has this effect already.

Thanks for the quick answer.
I had a look at the trimBrushes already before and they do exactly the opposite of what I need. They paint everywhere but on the hard edges. Which kind of works I just need to reverse-paint. My first instinct was to try and get the opposite effect using ALT but when I do this there is no RGB Info painted at all.

another option?

Try the Trim Dynamic Trails specifically, it works differently. It’s what you’re looking for

It’s a “main workhorse” brush for many during polypainting. With RGB or MRGB active it only hits the edges.

Drust shows it off a bit here: http://www.pixologic.com/docs/index.php/Joseph_Drust

Section 5. If you break down that brush in it’s modifiers and masking functions you can adjust it to suit your needs. Mine is tweaked to work as a psuedo “drybrush”, use it all the time.
