Modeling a Shoe?

Hello. This seems really silly for me to ask, but what you don’t ask you won’t know right?

So, my question is, How do you make nice clean flat surfaces in clothing?
ex: armor, belts, sun glasses, boots, or even dress pants with that clean flod cut down the front middle of the pant leg.
I’m trying to model the soul of a shoe with all the grip details and i’m unsure what is the most efficient way to do that. I’ve been struggling going back and forth with the smooth and flaten brush, but i’m losing that battle with much frustration. It would mean a lot to me if any of you would be willing to point out a tutorial or to share your tips N tricks.

thanks for your time

i know it can be done, i just don’t know how! XD

try using the lazy mouse with a brush…to switch it on/off use the L key

For boot grips, you may wish to try… Provided this is high resolution geometry… Masking off the tread pattern you want, inverting the mask, and using the deformation/inflate tool to inflate out the stencilled area? Or perhaps see if a few sweeps of the Layer tool will do the same thing?

I generally have an okay time roughing out flat surfaces with flatten and mallet, then using various pinch tools to clean up the edges…

thanks alot for your advice. i’ll try that right away!
