Model detail lost?

I’ve been using this for some time, but I’m not 100% comfortable with a lot of zbrush’s interface yet.

I finished sculpting detail into a model, but when I open the project I thought I saved it to, it only contains the low-poly model. This is not a case of mixing up Documents, Projects, or Tools. I am using Project saves exclusively while I work, and this is a case of me being only 50% certain the project was saved. :o

Some things worth noting:

  • The project file is still 77MB, causing me to think the data is still there.
  • The project file thumbnail shows the high-poly version, also causing me to think the data is still there.
  • There are no hidden subtools.
  • There are no higher subdivisions.

The Zbrush interface still confounds me, so if you can think of a place I haven’t checked, or some feature that might be hiding or storing all my detail somewhere that I don’t know about, please share your knowledge. Thankfully if the work is lost it’s not too much, but still frustrating (though my fault if I just didn’t save the thing when I thought I had).

Not exactly sure what’s going on there…

fwiw, I rarely (almost never) save zpr files… I only load and save ztools. I find this to be a much more reliable way to work.

Are you saving undo history within the projects?

Have you checked the Quicksave folder in Lightbox for higher detail versions?

Thank you for replying!

I used to use tools, but only started using ZPR’s because they were more all-inclusive and I liked the undo retention. I think in this case I just happened to not save it. The lightbox/quicksave file thumbnail is what gave me the impression the data was there somewhere, but there’s no undo history in the file and it sounds like I’ve checked everywhere else. I’ve resculpted everything already so no big deal. Thank you for helping me get a better understanding!
