I am working my way through the manual and am stuck at the instructions: Warrior part 5 The head. I sculpted the head but the Material instructions said to select the Colorizer 1 material, Select the S1 channel and press CopySH to copy this shader, next it says to select the QuadShaders material, Select the S1 channel again and press PasteSH. After these instructions it shows screen dumps for the S1-S4 channels and instructs us to enter in all the settings for each channel. For some reason the first screen dump list: tetefFnal5. 1 as the name of the material-where did this SkinTone material come from? Following the previous instructions, the name of my material is QuadShaders. 74. I wind up with a dark grey face. Not the pink one that is shown in the manual. Where did I go wrong?
The screen shot shows a different name because the author had saved his material.
Most likely, you missed the Multiply setting in the S1 channel. That needs to be toggled so that you can see the color instead of blackness.
Thank you for your help Aurick. I clicked the MultiplyMode toggle as you suggest, but I have the same results. A dark grey face. No Pink!
I have started from scratch five of six times and have come up with the same results every time [I re-initalize each time to be sure I have a pristine setup]. I carefully checked my settings against the manual-I have keyed in everything properly.
The one thing I noticed that was different was that the four squares [Dif, Spec, Ambi, and Cavi] at the bottom of channels 2-4, and the “Out” and “In” squares under Cannel 1 never change colors. Whereas in the manual they are different shades of pink and brown. Also in S1 under the “Out” square I have a square with a landscape and sky in it-whereas in the manual that is not shown. I must be missing something else.
Has anyone gotten it to turn pink?
Yes, you do need to change the color patches. Those are the colors that the material is working with. If you leave them at default, then you would naturally get grey rather than flesh.
Thank you very much for your help Aurick. The color patches at the bottom were the trick. It turns out they needed to be modified too. That was not obvious to a newbie [or at least not to me]. I mistakenly thought adjusting the numerical settings would change the color patches.
I would like to make a suggestion to the ones making the manual for the new (unreleased) version of ZBrush- Be more specific. I would have avoided a lot of grief if in addition to saying “The images on the following pages show the settings that you should use for each channel” The manual should have also said something like: in addition to the numerical settings, you need to adjust the curves [I think that what they are called] and manually match the colors at the bottom of each channel". Then it should say how to do that. It was trial and error for me. Only at the last did it dawn on me how to do it. The writer of the manuals must remember that though it is second nature to the writers, to newbies, it is Greek and must be spelled out. Well, enough said about that. I am just glad I was able to figure it out with your help. Thank you once again.
