Mirroring and symmetry

Hey guys

I’m currently sculpting a horse in zbrush and I’m having some problems with mirroring. I basically started the model from a basic sphere and used dynamesh to get it the right shape, build muscles and detail etc… however as soon as I started molding the sphere into the body, head and limbs, the symmetry naturally went off alignment and I didn’t bother using it. However now that one side is looking really good, I have tried several times to mirror it after looking online at tuts and zbrush either crashes, makes my model spikey?? or tells me no symmetry points found. Some of the methods I used was to try and reset the symmetry point, which is still a little off, use smart symmetry and mirroring after masking off the good side of the model and hoping thus the detail would project onto the other side.

Still fairly noobish to zbrush and I dont completely know how to use all of its features other than just perform sculpts and the basics etc so any help and guidance or information on where I’m going wrong and how to fix this irritating issue would be much appreciated!
