HI. I am new to Zbrush. I am a professional flatware designer and think ZBrush would be a perfect way to add ornament to my flatware models. I create the basic spoon model in solidthinking Evolve and want to import the obj file into ZBrush to add textures. I turn my nurbs surface into a pollymesh and then save out as an obj file. I am able to import into Zbrush. I am sort of understanding Geometry/Diving to bring up the mesh count. I’ve learned how to import my own Alpha to create a custom texture mask or stencil and then sculpt down the surface. If I go to the print hub and save out in obj or stl the file size is huge. I don’t quite understand how to reduce the file size. Do I do this in the Zplugin/decimation? Any thoughts how I can get better informed? Does anyone do product design, with this similar work flow? I’d really like to network with them. I’ve attached a screen shot of one of the spoons in Zbrush, unrendered.! 10%20PM|706x1702
Yes, Decimation Master is what you’re looking for. It is very useful for reducing polycount for situations where topology is not critical, like 3d printing.
Likewise, you may find that it’s easier to create some decorative elements as separate meshes. Fusing any separate mesh elements prior to decimation into a single contiguous mesh will get rid of a lot of redundant polygons. Dynamesh or Live Boolean is the tool for this.
I do a lot of work for print using 3d print hub. I’ll answer any questions that I’m able to. General Zbrush knowledge will be useful as you learn to decorate your pieces as well, and there are plenty of people who can help with that.
Thank you for answering so quickly! I am trying it now. As I get into this I know I will have more questions.
