-[meta-baron]-

Been hooked on Zbrush for nigh on two months now, It’s great! This was one of my first head sculpts. Initially I had a bust of Judge Dredd in mind, and I still may do one of him from this base mesh, but I kinda changed my mind because I couldn’t figure out how to do his helmet (Cast away those filthy thoughts!) JD wears a Helmet as part of his uniform! Also, I had been reading The Saga of The Metabarons at the time, and I think a little of his character crept into the bust, so I’ve kinda tweaked at it back and forth over the weeks as I’ve been experimenting with Zbrush.

Anyways, here it is. Metabaron or Judge Dredd?

I think it looks like a cross between Patrick Stewart, Jack Nicholson and Willem Dafoe, but maybe that’s just me

Oops, you nearly poked my eye out! Sorry, I placed one eyeball a bit to far in! :stuck_out_tongue:

oops wonky eye.jpg

Yeah, I know those lugs need more work, I just bunged em on for now

Anyone know how I could do a helmet in Zbrush alone? Or is that simply not possible?

I’ll post more updates if people are interested.

Looks very Meta-Baron-esque.
I think you should stick with that idea

Thanks mate, I thought he was looking more like the present Metabaron

Little responce, so I guess you and me are the only Jodorowsky/Mobius fans here!?

nope, A. you´re not alone

btw i see this guy like someone between W. Dafoe and Jason Statham.

keep going :+1:

The Incal is one of the best eurocomics, can’t wait to see this finished.

…of the barons : Juan Gimenez
Cool Modeling

Yeah, you can do the helmet a number of ways. From using multimarkers to exporting the base mesh and adding a primitive helmet in another 3d app such as maya, max or something along those lines. Then attaching it and bringing it back into zbrush for details. You can also use morph targets with multimarkers and just take the skullcap section, remove what you don’t want or mold into what you want or whatever. There’s a number of ways to do what you’re asking.

Btw, that’s a good sculpt. Keep it up, I’d like to see it finished.

Ah ha! so there is some Matabaron fans here

Thanks for the comment all, much appreciated

Been fiddling with making morph targets tonight as it happens kyphur, thanks for the info though :+1: I sense that the morph target feature has fantastic and powerful potential. Great for making terminator styled heads with stripped flesh showing the innards etc.
As for other app’s, there a no-go for me, at least for now. I tend to stick to learning one thing at a time, and Zbrush is my ‘thing’ at the moment and will be for a long while yet. Silo 2.0 looks fantastic though, so I’ll probably get that eventually.

Not exactly an update, I just mocked up the Metabarons tunic and literally bunged the bust/head on. It’s poking out a bit at the back, but it’s just a test so it’s nothing to worry about.

I am worried about the collar though! It’s looking a little sailor like I think. Also anyone care to comment on the proportions of the tunic to the head? Do the arms look to small? Body to broad/stout etc?

Still need to refine that ear

I think seeing orthos of the front and profile would be a bit more helpful in determining proportions. Right now it looks o.k. but I wouldn’t be 100% sure from the camera angles you have.

The collar is a bit 70’s-ish if you ask me. I haven’t seen much in the “meta-barons” so I’m not sure what you’re referencing. If it weren’t so late for me right now I would go look but I’m heading off to bed right now.

Good luck and I look forward to seeing more.

He is looking good. The collar…hmmm immediately put me in the mind of the costume, uniform that Persus Kambatta worth as Lt. Ilea(?) from Star Trek the Motion Picture…

He reminded me of a drawing I posted a couple of years ago here…

Very Nice! Good Job :sunglasses: :+1:

Heh, your right Ron, your illustration certainly could pass for him alright  And the collar does look like the bald chicks from ‘Star Trek The Motion Picture’ Oh dear!

Zyphongale, thanks mate

kyphur, here’s some renditions (not by me!) of the ‘present’ metabaron for comparison, there have been many others, but it’s the present one I’m trying to do.

A very brief history below if your interested. WARNING SPOILERS Cut and paste, not my words, I’m to lazy!

The current Meta-Baron is the last descendant of a dynasty of warriors who willingly sacrificed parts of their bodies to replace them with cybernetic implants. All Meta-Barons are trained since their youth to become cold killing machines. They are forced to fight to death with their own parents to get their title. The current Meta-Baron was possibly the most promising one. He was born for battle. He avoided people and preferred to deal with machines instead. However, everything changed one day. He was inside his impenetrable buker when a beautiful woman named Animah appeared in front of him. Instead of atacking her at once, he fell in love like a teenager. She asked him to protect her baby and to raise it as his own. At first, he agreed simply because he was charmed by her presence. However, he grew up to love Solune like the kid he had never had. Solune was what the Emperoress of the planet should have been: the perfect androgynous. The Meta-Baron could not stop Tanatah, the Amok Queen, from kidnapping Solune years later and she forced him to hunt down John Difool, the current holder of the Incal. However, they soon found out that she had never planned to let them live. They got free from her, but the transformation of evil President into the necroprobe -the ultimate killing machine- forced them to ally themselves with the queen, Difool and Animah herself, who had been waiting for them. The Meta-Baron had an important rol in stopping darkness from its desire of swallowing the universe. He had at first a hard time accepting that Animah would never be his, but he finally accepted Tanatah instead.
