I’ve never had this problem in Zbrush 3.5r3 when doing topolgy, but the mesh is transparent in Zb4 and it’s really starting to get on my nerves because they like to link together, come apart, all kinds of weird crap.
About the closest thing to a fix your going to get right now is make the following changes in Preferences > Draw submenu…
Front Opacity 0.95
Back Opacity 0.01
Edit: After making the changes, make sure you store a configuration file so you don’t have to make the settings everytime you start ZBrush. You can go to Preferences > Config and click ‘Store Config’ or just press ‘Ctrl+Shift+I’
Alternatively, you can use the Appended ZSphere Method to retopologize.

I also thought of an alternate method - export the model at high subdivision and import it into 3.5r3 and just do the clothing or whatever there, then re-import it back to z4.
