Mesh exploding when dividing back and forth

Hi!

I’m at sdiv 5 with my model and I want to go to sdiv 1 and come back to sdiv 5. But my model explode when I come back.

I have to do this cause I want to adjust the uvs in XSI before doing the bump and color map. (my uv are too small in my texture and i want to scale them).

I do have some overlapping uv cause the interior of each eyes and ears is on top of another (because the will share the same color). but there is no overlapping-crossing uv.

Any advice or turnaround please?

Here is what I want to do with my uv:

I want to change for a rectangular texture and scale the uv. Maybe it is not a good idea anyway to go for a rectangular texture…

Also I noticed there is a vertex poping in my uv reexported from zbrush as you can see.

This sounds like the 3d app messed up the export of the obj and possibly re-ordered the vertices.

This link has a solution for ZBrush->Maya->ZBrush, and may work for XSI:

Hope it helps…

if you are using maya, when you re-import your level 1 mesh back to maya, you need to tic the option “create multiple object” to false so it doesn’t screw up your vertices numbers order…You need to find this option in XSI

You should have a look at you Uvs as well as i can see that some point seem to be on the line of the uv space…It should only screw up you normal map generation though but worht a try…I definilty recon the vertices number renaming while exp/importing back your file…
If all of these doesent work, and if you have been a good boy and kept your model all quads, try this: go into your highest level and delete all lower level…then use the “reconstruct subdiv level” to recreate all your steps…let me know if that sort out your problems

Also remember to always save multi-res models at level 1. Saving at higher subdivision levels risks corruption of the model.

I think it was a corruption of the model…

I went back in precedently saved version of my tool and found one that was ok… pfew!!! I did not have so much work to do again so I’m okay now. I don’t know what could have cause this corruption though…
