Mesh and UVS become messed up and model is black and opaque.

I was working a Nickz_humanMaleAverage Ztool. It has UVs already mapped; however, after a few bit of polypainting zbrush crashes and I open up the file and find this mess. When I check uvs all of it has merged into a blocky mess. When I upload a previous mesh with good uvs in, the uvs are automatically distorted and have the same black opaque look. Is there a way I could recover my work or do I have to restart my project?
