Merging two meshes and closing seams

Hi all.

I hope someone can help me. I have a sculpt that i started and got into the blocking phase but I need to replace the hands with another idea. Instead of re-sculpting the whole hand (it’s not in dynamesh mode anymore), I want to use another hand mesh that I have.

I have tried to import it as a sub-tool and merge them by using ZPlugin> Subtool Master > Merge and tried converting a merged mesh into dynamesh, but each time, the seams between the meshes (hand and body) remain separated. I can’t get them to merge, even in dynamesh mode. i would also rather not re-dynamesh the model as i ill lose topology.

I am thinking that may only option at this point is to desimate the model and try to repaiur it in Maya, but that’s a long workaroundand i was hoping that ZBrush has a solution?

Appreciate any help anyone can offer.

Hey Harry, you could try using the Curve Bridge brush to join the two meshes together.

Remove the polys on both caps, (on the hands at the ends of the wrist, and on the forearms at wrist area)

Might want to make a duplicate of your body mesh before this next step. Then Merge the Hands and body meshs.

Align the hands with the forearms, and leave a small gap.

Select the Curve Bridge brush, and start to draw down towards the forearm end polys and press shift when close. It will add a ring of red selected curve points.

Now do the same with the wrists, when you let go of shift, you should have new topology joining the two meshes.

You should probably Freeze your body mesh first before any of the above.

And another good way to get quite accurate results with the bridge, is to duplicate your wrists mesh, and with the copy, play with Zremeshers poly count until your hand and forearm have a very similar toplology.
This helps to reduce the possibilities of creating triangles with the Curve Bridge brush.

Maybe someone knows of another method that might be quicker, there’s always another way in Zbrush :]

Good luck ~ Cheers

Thanks for the reply Bangers. I didn’t know about that particular brush. I will give it a go. So far I had do re-sculpt the hand on the existing mesh which used up a bunch of time.
