Merge subtool and keep polypaint?

Hi, I have a subtool that I have polypainted. I want to merge it down with the rest of the model, but when I press merge down, I lose all the polypainted colors. Is there a way that I can keep my colors and still merge it with the rest of the model?

Duplicate and reproject comes to mind…

Merge Down, Merge Similar and Merge Visible does not destroy Polypaint. It’s hard to tell what’s going on with the amount of information you provided though.

ok I found that after merging I had to turn on the paint brush icon in subtools to view the colors. Which as you said were still there. Only now it seems part of the body has these colors as well? (The dark shaded body) I tried pressing clear mask thinking it was that, but nothing happened. I attached a picture of what I’m talking about. Any idea whats going on ? ask me anything else you need to know hopefully I can provide it. thanks

Try turning off Edit, then put RGB slider to 100, then turn Edit back on.

If that doesn’t work, you might have filled the subtool with a darker color before you merged it. If you still have separate polygroups after you merged, hold down Ctrl+Shift and click on the dark body so it is the only thing visible on the canvas, then select white in the color picker, turn on RGB button then go to “Color > FillObject”. Any polypainting you had on the body will be lost, but it doesn’t look like you had polypainting on that part anyway.

hey thank you so much that worked perfectly!

No problem! :+1:
