Merge fibremesh subtools and still export curves?

Hi,

I’m wondering if it’s possible to merge fibremesh subtools and for them still to be fibremesh?

(Long story short)
I’ve made the hair for my current model by masking a small area of the scalp, creating fibremesh from that mask. Styling it and either duplicating and adjusting the resulting subtool, or, masking another small area and creating another fibremesh/subtool and so on and so on…

The upshot is I now have hair for the model that’s made out of 50 subtools.

The problem is that now I want to export the curves into Maya for rendering and it seems that if I merge the subtools, they aren’t fibremesh anymore, so I can’t export them as curves. I could export each of the subtools as separate sets of curves, but my gut is telling me that that will get logistically hairy (sorry) and could slow the pipeline down considerably.

Any advice?

Is there any way to merge subtools that are fibremesh so that they retain their fibremeshiness?

Should I have really created the fibremesh as one subtool in the first place? Or is exporting 50 sets of curves into maya not that big a deal anyway?

Thanks in advance
