memory exception

RoROOOE Scooby DO!

I defragmented my harddrive last night, and it sent ZBrush into a Coronary Fit.

I can’t open my ZDoc on Cephalopod. And it sure made my other ZDocs act funky. Z seems to be wanting to allocate memory that doesn’t exist, thereby throwing it into a major error, and crashing…hmmmmmmm

BUT I do have the original tools…textures…etc…

Course maybe it wasn’t the defraggin. I don’t know yet.

But it was running fabulous before that event.

So be careful ZBers. Dunno.

If anyone HAS defragged a drive containing Z successfully, could ya email me? I’d like to know.

Thanks.

My experience after defrag, and opening a zbrush doc a month ago…cost me one hardrive, now whether or not it was the zbrush doc I shall leave to the code experts. All I know is that after that event my fat file became corrupted…I couldn’t even low level format. In hindsight I would consider defragging, but I would then open explorer and delete the docs.

I didn’t think too much about it until I saw this post…thinking that it was just an erroneous corrupt file that caused my loss, as sometime happens. I’m A+ certified so believe me when I tell you I tried everything I know of to get my hardrive back into working order.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Sounds ugly.

Any others???

BTW ZuZu et al., I have the Dr Watson error log, and offending ZDoc zipped up if you’d like to take a look and debug against the file.

Hi Kathy. Sorry to hear about your frustrating problem. I’m running Windows 2000 Professional, and I defragged a couple nights ago. I just loaded up one of my old Zbrush docs and rendered it without a hitch.

Sorry I can’t help but I didn’t have a problem just defragging. After Win98 for years and WinME for a couple months, I’ve come to a conclusion: Win2K rules! I used to have system lock-ups and crashes on such a regular basis, Win2K has been a blessing. This WAS the first defrag of my new system.

I don’t know if it makes a difference in this situation or not but the drive where my Z resides is in NTFS format, not Fat32. Good luck!

Thanks Danny. I agree WIN2000 rocks on. It’s been incredibly stable for me. I have all 50 gigs in NTFS format.

I’m just not sure how to look at this.

But, I’m in ZBrush right now, and it’s running fine. I just can’t open that one file. It throws me into memory exception.

My only thought is, I may have corrupted the file myself last time I was in it. I hate to go screaming at Z. I just may not be that at all.

Oh well, it’s working, Win2000 is running fine.

I STILL love ZBrush.

You know what they say, “90% of bugs can be found between the monitor screen and the back of the chair…”

win 98…and it was only the one doc that did it to me…a couple of others were fine…from memory it was the last one I had been working on before the defrag… For the record.

Hi Kathy,

Go ahead and send me the zipped file and we’ll have a look at it.

I am able to open the file OK…

Could you email me all of your system information…

Thanks

-ZuZu

Done deal.
