Memory error(s)

Hello everybody. First of all i’ve seen (a lot) of other threads about this and tried a lot of what was suggested… and i have failed miserably.

I am using ZBrush 4R6 on a mac with 8GB of ram and more than 1TB of free space. My problem started with GoZ, it just would not work and pop the error of space critically low which as stated is not the problem.

I’ve tried compacting mem to use 4GB of ram and still get the same problem… furthermore now i can’t even generate 2k normal maps for an 11 million poly sculpt nor export utilizing multi map exporter. (I tried other solutions discussed on the raptor saving article)

At this point i have attempted to change the permits so i can read&write as administrator and i’ve even tried running ZBrush as root. None of those solves the issue.

I’ve tracked the issue to an error regarding memory allocation:

[mmap(size=2147483648) failed (error code=12)

But i really don’t know what i can do about it… I thought it could be a problem of how OSX was allocating the memory or how Zbrush was allocating it’s Vmem but upon searching i’ve seen people having this issue on windows too and on machines with better specs than mine so i am perplexed because it would seem is not an operating system problem, nor a hardware problem and i am even starting to doubt if it’s a Zbrush exclusive problem or it could happen to other software here.

So… i am looking for either a solution or a work around here that do not involve lowering the resolution of my model. I think that, dividing my model or generating UVs outside 0 to 1 area are the only things i’ve not yet tested.

Would maybe any of those work around this issue? Any other possible solutions would be much appreciated since i really want to be able to use GoZ and Multi map again.

Cheers.
