Hello All, I am a NOOB to the Zbrush world and I have a TON of learning to do. Here is my first piece I am submitting. Critiques are welcome because I need all the help I can get. Lovin the art I see and look forward to seeing more. Thanks Guys!
Still missing tribal tattoos (Don’t know how to do that yet).He is based on a historical figure named Finau 'Ulukalala. He was a high chief in Tonga that became a legend in the country’s civil war lasting from 1799 - 1850. He was very tactical and ingenious but also brutal and barbaric in his war efforts. William Mariner, a british sailor who was captured and spared by him wrote a book called “Mariner” narrating his time during captivity.
Everything on him is done from research:
- Hair (dyed only on left side)
- War paint only done on the right side.
- War clubs: (Lft. Hand) Club called the Kinikini inlayed with Ivory made from whale teeth. (Rt.Hand) throwing club used to stun enemies long enough to be finished by the Kinikini. Both made from Iron wood.
- Necklace is made of Ivory and Iron wood decorated by whale teeth.
- Headdress decorated with sea shells and a handmade wreath used for lining. Headdress and Loin cloth are made from finely beaten bark called ‘tapa’. Still used extensively in Tongan culture today.
