Measuring device’s suitable for ZBrush

I find at times that some sort of measuring device would be useful in ZBrush, well this weekend I have found two that are free and contain no spyware. The first one’s are callipers from, www.iconico.com they are shareware, but the free version can be used for an unlimited time, it only measure’s in pixels. The one’s that can be changed to inches etc, you have to buy. I have had an occasional error dialogue with them while testing them and they seem to knock the system resources down a bit, but for what I want them for, I don’t see it as a major problem. They can be used either horizontally or vertically.
The other device is a ruler from, www.fabsoft.com ‘Cool Ruler’, this can be extended, measure’s in pixels, inches, CM, or custom. You can put marks on the ruler where you want them, it shows horizontal and vertical coordinates and you can create more rulers when you want. The font’s colouring was a bit hard to see initially, but you can change that and the font. I have had no problems with this while testing it. They can also be used either horizontal or vertical. Of course both could be used with any program, not just Zbrush. For help in getting accurate proportions, in either Zsphere figures or anything else they are a great addition.

Thanks for these resources. I think they could be very valuable to get the proportions of some models right.

Those look really handy. Thanks for the links.

nice usefull tool! thx

but why pixologic team don’t add this function with the graduation of the 3 axes??

wow do I ever need this! Thank you!!

could come in handy for scaling images or people… thanks…

wow, they look like fabulous utilities, Dave - i was sure they wouldnt have a mac-version, though - and i was right :frowning: but i assume we will find something similar inhouse Z with one of the next updates - i would love it!

Thank you so very much for this information. In our wish list for 1.5, I think jaundel and I asked if a ruler could be included. It is nice to see that we can now get one to use in ZBrush. In the past I have used the ruler in Publisher as you can move it around the canvas. It cannot however measure diagonally as far as I can tell.
This will get a lot of use. I am happy you found it and was willing to share the information.
DeeVee,
Joe.

What is Publisher?

DeeVee?? Diagonal ???
and pythagore??? hein ??
you have height, large, then you have diagonaly

For memory trouble like me
In a rectangle triangle heightheight + largelarge = diagonaldiagonal
so diagonal = square (h
h + ll)
3
3 + 44 = dd
d = square (9 + 16)= 5 :slight_smile:

I d/l the cool ruler, but would like some help as where to install it, and how to make it run in zbrush, a newbie here. Thanking U in advance for any and all assistance.

Hi SpriteD, after the download of ‘Cool Ruler’ when you click on the exe file, follow the wizard and it will install itself by default to Program Files, I always leave the install location at the default setting. Once installed you should find you have the ‘Cool Ruler’ icon on your desktop, if by any chance you haven’t, go to, Start menu\programs\Cool Ruler and click on the icon. It is an independent program, so all you have to do when you require it for ZBrush or any other program, is to minimize the program window that you are using, click the ruler icon which will open it, then bring up, e.g. the ZBrush window again and your ruler floats above it. You can then shift it around the program window to wherever you want it; the same applies to the callipers.
I forgot to mention at the beginning of the thread that the ruler also has a calculator, which can be opened up from its mini tool bar. I’m pleased that people have found it useful and thanks for putting your comments on the thread.
