Maya quetion: modeling with smooting groups?

I have a problem: I would like to modelise with smoothing groups a smoothed mesh in maya, like in max.

The difference is : on my borders, instead of having rounds edges, I have angular edges…

Is there a way to get rid of this issue?

try switching between exponential and linear smoothing techniques - can be found by clicking the surface and going to attribute editor

how do you like maya modeling compared to max?

  • d

Gonna try that…

Actualy I think max have few features more in pure poly modeling, but I think they are nearly equal, if you except the crappy soft selection in maya…

Ever tried XSI for modeling Seb?
I tried Max before XSI and played with Maya before both of them. The XSI polygonal modeler has yet to be beaten…
Lemo

Its just I might have to work in maya, so I tryed to match my workflow with max…
But its simply doent work…

Abnoid: switching to linear disable the smoothing group feature…

I think I gonna have to do that manually in zbrush with creases…

have you tried “soften/harden normals” under the edit poly>normals menu

it may be the hard edges. if you did polygon->smooth then under the chanell box click on the polySmooth input and set “keep hard edges” to off (type 0)

Hey Seb and fx81.

To turn off the border edges, type (off) in KEEP Border.

good luck
