Maya and GoZ workflow - mirroring

I model only one side in Maya. When using the GoZ workflow what is the best way to have things be mirrored in Zbrush? If I mirror it in zbrush then I can’t use the GoZ workflow unless I make a new mesh each time I import it into zbrush and then I have to duplicate and mirror it all over again. And I couldn’t send it back into Maya if I manually mirror it in zbrush myself because it makes a new mesh when it spits it back out to Maya.

If I use mirror geometry or duplicate special, when I export it to zbrush then reimport it back into Maya it doesn’t keep any of that information so I lose being able to edit the geometry symmetrically including use of tools like extrude and insert edge loop etc.
