Maximum .OBJ import file size?

I have 32 gigs of DDR4 RAM on my PC. I have a client that needs me to open very large .OBJ files. I cant import .OBJ’s larger than 1.5 gigs. I tried on my clients computer that has 64 gigs of ram through TeamViewer and it didnt fair much better. Freeform and Maya are opening Much larger .obj’s. What is the bottleneck in Zbrush? Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance,

Will 128 gigs of RAM be enough to open 30 gig files? Is there a poly cap?

Do you need UVs? Apparently if there are no UVs in the OBJ then larger files can be imported.

I may be able to help with a plugin that splits the OBJ into parts. I tested on my machine which has 16GB RAM and could import a file of over 2GB this way (32 million polys). ZBrush still complained when I merged the subtools but still did it.

I’d need a day or two to do the plugin.

This is terribly interesting! What would your time frame be?
