Hello I’m using Zbrush 3.1 and for whatever reason on some of my models the material won’t change. The preset tools they change. Here’s what’s going. If I load the demohead and draw it out and change the material nothing happens. So with the material changed and I draw it out again it draws out in that material. Ok here’s where it gets even more odd. I’ve been doing the tutorials by cannedmushrooms (excellent teacher by the way) I just got done with Lesson 2 (making a skull) got it all saved out as a Ztool. In Lesson 3 he has a new material which I got loaded up. Loaded my skull back up and changed it to that material and nothing happens. So I restart Zbrush load the skull back up and stil no changes to the material. Ok so then I decide to try it like previous and draw it out again (like with the demohead) and still sticks with the red material. Is this a bug in Zbrush and if so is there a patch to it? or am I just doing something wrong here? It is in edit mode at the time I change the material.
you have to be in edit mode for the changes to take effect.
if the material is filled on the object. Then you have to override the new material you want to use.
MRGB active on the top, or M
color>fill object.
make sure you are in edit mode, or you won’t see the changes take effect until you redraw the tool to the canvas.
thanks for the reply. It is in edit mode when I go to change the material. It mainly seems to be on this skull I did in this tutorial. Here’s another kind of odd thing though. It seems the material is changing on it. However there is only seems to be a portion of it. I’m uploading a picture of it to kind of see what I’m talking about. Nevermind the skull not being anything of perfection. It’s my first sculpt. sort of. I was following the tutorial best I could.

you probably have a very small mask in that area, or that area had the material filled on the object. simply make sure the mask is off, then change the material, or fill the material with the “flat shader” and that will remove the material.
still didn’t work. I went under mask pressed clear. I don’t have a flat shadder it don’t seem. Only thing I seen Was “fast Shadder” So I pressed that and then tried to apply a different material. After that I tried “flat color” still got nothing. Only thing either seemed to do was just make those little areas a different color.
clear all masks> select flat shader under materials pallet> use subtoolmaster> fill material>the flat shader (it looks all white)> then select a new mat. and wahla. ps have all other subtools unchecked (the subtool eye is off) that you don’t want filled.
