Material changes once a texture is applied (answered)

Hello all,
I have a problem I’m trying to figure out. First use subtool master to fill my subtool with a specific material. Everything works fine, yet when I apply a texture to said subtool, the material reverts back to whatever active material I select. As soon as I turn the texture off, the original (filled material), is present again.

Ive tried the traditional fillObject method, yet to no avail. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Sorry for the quick BUMP, but I’m truly at a stand still here. Any help would be appreciated.

Texture maps override materials unless there are material indices embedded in the texture. There are a couple of ways you can do this:

Projection Master method:

  1. With the texture applied to your model and a different material selected, drop in Projection Master.
  2. Make sure only ‘M’ (for material) is selected. Select the material you want to embed and the DragRect stroke and paint over the model.
  3. Pick up making sure only Material and optionally Double Sided are checked in the dialog.

Texture from Polypaint method:
If you have painted material and polypaint on your model then you can embed the material into the texture by making sure MRGB is on before pressing Tool>Texture Map>New from Polypaint.

In this case, a possible workflow (depending on mesh density and texture size):

  1. With RGB on (so no material) press Tool>Polypaint>Polypaint From Texture.
  2. Make sure Tool>UV Map>UV Map Size is set to correct size.
  3. Switch on MRGB and press Tool>Texture Map>New from Polypaint.

Oh my gosh, your awesome! Thanks a million:D Worked like a charm.
The “polypaint from texture” method blurred my texture somewhat, so I just used the “projection master” method.

Thanks Again

I have a few parts on a project that I can’t seem to remove or change either the texture or the materials. I’ve tried the fill object with the flat material and white color (numerous times) to no avail. I’ve tried the methods above, also, with no success. I can’t recall exactly what method I used to apply the texture and materials that cause it to stick so well. I’m just learning Zbrush and was experimenting when I textured those parts. Anyone have any good suggestions as to how I can resolve this?

My apologies. I figured it out. In addition to material a texture it appears I had left them masked.
