Material add won't work, resulting in very dark and red render

Hello all,

I’m just starting in ZBrush and don’t have that much experience yet, so it could be something fairly easy which I’m doing wrong, but I would love it if someone could help me out, because I don’t seem to be able to find it.

I have my model lit out by several lights, he has the white material on the left on him (at least, he should, but apparently doesn’t) and has a polypaint on top of it. I have tried to add the material to him by Color -> Fill object, but nothing changes. In the Subtool menu everything is dark red, as is in the render. It has a little bit of color but it’s mostly dark red. I did something to be able to override it with white, but then the whole polypaint is gone and doesn’t want to be added again eventhough I’ve saved it as a texture.
Anyone knows what I’m doing wrong?

I’ve added two images, the light one is before render and the other one is when I tried to render it.

Thank you for the link, but that’s exactly the problem. If I do this, as it is written in the link, no matter what NOTHING changes. The subtool itself, as well as all the other subtools, stay the same material as they were…

sorry *edit on the last one;
the other subtools will listen to the thing you posted, but only the one with the head itself in it, won’t listen to anything I do.

Is it masked by chance? Try selecting the tool and pressing Tool >> Masking >> Clear Mask. Sometimes you can have a mask where the visibility has been turned off. It’s still there and still affecting your model but you can’t see it.

Already did that, but it didn’t fix it :frowning: Thanks for the help though

What material is assigned to that tool? You could fill (with M selected) with a different material? Can you zip and upload your ‘offending’ ztl file? Clone just that one, select it so it’s active then save the tool. I’m sure people will try to help more.

EDIT-

turned out i was wrong about not being able to change the material after using Mrgb. i never noticed the M button right next to it…which stuns me…but if you turn that on you can then change the material without disturbing the paint.

thanks to Doug for pointing that out to me.

Color is not material…You can select and fill with a different material after painting. Are you using ZB4R6 P2? If not, ZPlugin:Auto Update. Then recheck all we have mentioned.
