Masks/Stencils based on Material

Hi there,

I was wondering if it is somehow possible to create a Mask or Stencil based on the material. For Example I only want to modify the part, where a certain material has been painted without having to manually retrace the area to create a Mask.
Maybe I can export the materials index as an alpha and use that again as a stencil ? Then again I don’t know how to export the different material indexes … would be great though to further tweak the image in Photoshop as well.

Thanx,
Jens.

If you have a texture with embedded materials, then when you export that texture ZBrush will ask if you want to include the material indices as an alpha. Say yes, then load the texture into Photoshop. There will be an alpha channel with various shades of gray (very faint). Each shade is a different material. You can use this to create a mask based on any or all of the materials that were applied to your model. You’d then load that back into ZBrush in the Alpha palette, and use Tool>Masking>Alp to mask the model based off the alpha.

I actually created a related tutorial some time ago. You can find it here: http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=011481

Oh well, works for me. Thanx Aurick. I never realized, that all the indices are embedded in the same alpha. Definetely helps.

Thank you,
Jens.
