Masking Symmetry Problem

I’m finding a difficulty with masking and was wondering if anybody else has experienced it. The object I’m working on is relatively thin, and the masking seems to “strike through” to the other side, even though the surface is made up of a different layer of polys. To give an example, it’s as if you were trying to mask the outside of a skull, but also kept getting the inside masked along with it.I’ve tried everything I can think of to correct this, but with no success. Unfortunately, the curvature of the surface prevents my hiding the back-facing polys successfully.

The masking brush operates as a volume, so it can punch through a thin mesh.

Since hiding the back of the model is not possible, I have another option for you:

Use Projection Master to drop the model to the canvas with a white base texture applied. Paint your mask as black. After picking the model up again, press Texture>Make Alpha, followed by Alpha>Inverse and finally Tool>Texture>Alp

The alpha will be applied as masking to the model, exactly where you’d painted it using Projection Master. Because PM only paints what’s facing the camera (unless Double is active), you won’t have the problem.
