I’m running 3.1 and I’m curious if anyone else has had these problems… Normally you can hold down CRTL to paint a mask, while CRTL + ALT will paint remove the mask… This works fin till I create a new texture and once I’ve dont that I can no longer paint a mask. I can CRTL drag to create a mask, but not paint one. Nothing shows up when I try to. Now if I CRTL & drag to create a square mask, then hold CRTL to try and paint the mask inside what I just masked it removes that mask as if I was holding CRTL + ALT, but I’m just holding CRTL down. Anyone else run into this?
When you have a texture selected in the Texture palette, ZBrush will paint the mask using intensity values from that texture.
What I recommend that you do is convert the texture to polypaint. You’ll then be able to deselect the texture so that you can mask the model normally.
Hmm, didn’t think about that, thanks for the help!
Did you resolve your masking issue? Is so maybe you can help me? I have installed and am trying to use 3.1. When I am trying to create a freehand mask using the control key I can’t see the mask. i have reinstall
3.0 and then 3.1 and I get the same result. I have checked the masking dialog
and press the view mask control but still nothing. It must be something simple but it’s just frustrating right now.
The solution is pretty much what aurick mentioned… Two things you’ll need to look out for… If you have your texture applied to the model, if you do then zBrush will mask by its values… Also if you have UV’s enabled in the Tool pallete > texture submenu, then this would also cause this, and them combined and you’ll have the problem I had and what you seem to be having… So turn you texture off and disable your UV’s and you should be able to mask without an problems.
Thank you very much Apavlic for responding. What’s really strange is that all of the settings should be default because for one reason or another I haven’t been able to get the time to sit and cocentrate on the new version. On thing I should point out is that I’m working on a Mac Pro running VMware Fusion to run my PC version of 3.1. Still waiting for the Mac version.
I did check though…and textures are off and UV is not active. The interesting thing is that when I press the control key I do get the 2 concentric yellow circles and the +Mask label but when i drag i see nothing and as soon as i let the mouse button go I get the floating shortcut brush etc. window. If i hold down the control key and click once I get this same floating dialog window. Is that what you get?
Thanks again for you feedback.
Nope, with mine since I had a white texture and Z3 was using those alpha values everything was already masked, so when I drew in the mesh nothing happened… All I had to do was make sure textures was off…
Now that you mentioned that your running Z3 under virtualization that probably will bring up some issues… I’m not an IT person so really I’m only guessing at this point but I bet that the problem. I’ve had GUI problems with maya under certain video cards. I’m betting that somewhere along the lines wires are getting crossed between your windows, VMWARE, etc… The more layered and OS, the more things there are to break… And I think something isn’t working right… From a video driver to keyboard settings, something might just not be clicking. I don’t know if you own the copy of windows, I’ve seen people running VMware ready versions which you can DL. But if you have a cop of windows and have a mac with BOOTCAMP, I would suggest using that. I have a few friends who run win with bootcamp and it works fine for them. Really I think the solution for you is ditch virtualization, hopefully that an option.
thank you…you are probably correct…i will investigate further…i have sent an email to pixologic support and VMware so hopefully some kind of fix will surface…thanks again
No problem, hopfully they’ll have some answers for you.
