Masking and sculpting tolerance settings?

I’m sculpting and masking a shape that is fairly thin in thickness and I’m noticing that whatever I sculpt or mask on one side carries over to the other side- is there a tolerance setting that will prevent this from happening? Is there a single side or facing side preference setting? I want the sculpting and masking to only effect the facing side, and not the other side that is directly in back or in front of the side I’m working on- imagine a thin flower petal or similar shape

Thank you for any advice!

See backside masking here. http://docs.pixologic.com/reference-guide/brush/auto-masking/

Thanks Doug,

I tried that- I activated Backside Masking and tried 3 settings- 10, 0, and -100, but the mask is still carrying over to the other side. I’m working on a water spalsh which has a decent wall thickness- am I overlooking something?

Turn on BackfaceMask while holding down Ctrl if you’re going to use it for freehand masking with the MaskPen brush.

Also, if your using BackfaceMask with the MaskPen brush, it will not work with the Rect, Circle, Curve and Lasso strokes.

Thanks so much- I wasn’t activating the Back Face Masking in proper sequence w/ Control- it now works!

Great! :+1:
