mask effect

can u help me how i can draw a uniform mask on a cylender which is speading some odd way & how i can get a glass effect which is very easy in BRYCE TO make a bottle with transperancy

I do not understand what you are asking about masking, but there is a lot of information on the subject in the QuickLinks.

Regarding transparency, there are a couple of ways to do it.

The traditional way is to choose a material with the Transparency modifier (one of the Gel Shaders is a good choice, since they look glassy already). Set it to the amount of transparency that you want. In the Render palette, turn off Flatten Layers. Then draw your bottle on a different layer from what will be visible through it.

There’s a new way with version 1.55b, though. Bake the layer. Then draw your bottle where you want it with an RGB intensity of less than 100 (you will need to press the L button next to the Draw>Intensity sliders in order to be able to keep Z Intensity at 100 while reducing RGB intensity). You can then set the Draw>Refraction slider to an amount that suits you.

The example above uses this method with RGB Intensity of 70 and Refrat of 56.

OOPS! I see Aurick posted something for you while I was writing this up. So I don’t know how much help it will be.
He seems to have answered you better than I could…Oh well I will leave it here anyways.

Hi I am not an expert but I may be able to help a little. First, getting a uniform mask depends a lot on the density of the mesh. If the polys are too low a mask can sometimes deform.

As for the transparency: The transparent object is achieved by turning your flatten layers off in the render palete Then use the transparency slider on your materials palate to get the desired amount of transparency you want. I find it’s best if the object I want to be transparent is on a seperate layer of it’s own, unless you have 2 objects on the same layer that you want to have the same transparency value. You also have to remember to play around with the materials as some of them render transparency better than others.
