MaPZone free texturing-tool

MaPZone is simply the most powerful texturing tool ever made.

Moreover, it’s FREE, so go ahead, download it and enjoy!

Any MapZoners here?

What kinds of maps are you making and how are they being used with ZBrush?

Have you seen the free bees thread? (and post #408; and maybe previous

It looks interesting, but when after I start it I have n idea what to do.

The tutorial on their forum (making metal floor) says “start with a blue color,” but in looking at the ui I haven’t the faintest idea how.

Any really basic tutorials/instructions out there?

I dont want to breake the fun…

But I have to admit… Even if I felt very anthousiast about those fractal generators, after a lot of tries…
I realised that it takes more time, its harder, and much less controlable than doing it in photoshop manualy by mixing photos…

I thought it would be a great addition for realtime enines, but the major probleme is textures need compute time to be generated, and it can be long when theyr complex…

So I’m not really convinced , but it free

I guess this discussion should really be under Freebees - sorry…

Anyway, I first happened on the Allegorithmic website over a year ago and was fascinated by the possibilities of their Map Zone package but even more by their Map Time plugin for After Effects and Combustion - dynamic textures and image processing over time. When I went back recently, I found out sadly that Map Time was no longer being offered (ProFX for game developers was being offered instead)… but Map Zone 2.5 was a free download (Pilou, I missed your recent post in the Freebees thread).

I downloaded and installed Map Zone 2.5 and also decided, after viewing several of their video tutorials, that controlling the process was too complex to get anywhere by simple experimenting. However it looked to be a very powerful tool… That’s why I asked if anyone was really using it, especially with ZBrush.

billrobertson42: there are a number of videos, .pdf files and webpages that explain aspects of the interface. One place to start might be >>> HERE <<< , and then examining a few of the example textures and watching the videos might be enough to get up to speed.

Sebcesoir: The advantage of course (assuming a person has invested in learning Map Zone) would be to easily explore variations by simply tweaking a few settings and/or loading new source images. The demo .MOV files which show realltime game procedural texturing are very impressive! And the description files are incredibly small. But as you say, compute time is still a real issue.

As for Map Zone, I’m not yet fully convinced one way or the other. Perhaps I’ll make some effort to master the interface and see where that leads. As you say, it is free.

I’ve examined material posted for MapZone and see its promise as a powerful texturing tool, however much to my chagrin, is there any possibility in the future of being able to download a Mac version ? Just politely enquiring
Thanks
