Mannequin Part replacement issue [Answered]

Hey, emailed support, but they said to post here. I’ve been trying to replace the parts on the generic zbrush mannequin with geometry that looks more realistic. I think the biggest issue with the default mannequins is that they resemble those silly drawing mannequins. I’d rather have the geometry look more realistic but still be able to pose it like you would with the regular mannequins. So I tried replacing the parts they way it’s mentioned in the manual, which works fine for the most part, however, after I insert more than 2 new local or connecting meshes in for the zspheres they begin to revert to regular polyspheres and I no longer have the specialized part that I’d originally inserted. They sometimes flash back for a few moments as I move or rotate the mannequin’s features but then flip back shortly after to a polysphere. Anyone out there with experience regarding this? I’d love to figure a way to do this. Thanks a lot!

I’ve noticed that creating mannequins is not as easy as it was. I have come across visibility issues, and the sort of thing you describe. I’ve not experimented much with the latest ZBrush version but I did find that starting at the root zsphere and with the connector meshes gave rather more reliable results.

Also, you may find that it is better to start with a ZSphere model that has no meshes already inserted. You can get rid of the meshes from a mannequin by using the Transpose Master > Store TM Rig and Paste TM Rig buttons. Press the Store TM Rig button to store the ZSphere structure, select a new ZSphere from the Tool palette and then press Paste TM Rig. You may find it’s a good idea to save out the new ZTL at that point, restart ZBrush and load the ZTL, so that you start with a clean project.
